    PSP won't charge

Might be me being an idiot here!

Got my psp this morning, it runs fine when plugged into the mains.
I've left it plugged in for over 3 hours (no power light comes on at all). If I then try and turn it on - Nothing!
If I plug it back into the mains then voila power!

I've looked on the menu when no games are in and I get the following screen

    Charge Level 0%
    Hours Left -
    Power source external
    Battery Status Charge complete

The battery sign in the top right corner shows no charge

Am I being stupid or is the battery knackered? Or maybe something else?

Have you actually put the battery in the PSP?

      Yup

Battery is in there, took it out and re-put it back in there.

You should get a Orange power light on the psp when charging, if that does not come on means that the battery is fully charged. Or the battery could be duff?

But you have ot have the battery in

Sounds like battery is probably dud, since they usually come with a small amount of juice already in them.

            Bummer...

(I'm sure you've checked this but...) Is the battery definitely fitted in properly? The only thing I can think of is that it's not quite sitting flush and the contacts on the PSP/ battery aren't meeting fully.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

              Think it must be

              Great!
Just put the battery back in still nothing. When I put the power supply back into the PSP then power light flashes red once n goes off

What happens when you turn the PSP on without the battery in? Is the PSP smart enough to know? Does the power info change at all?

It might be worth cleaning the battery contacts on the PSP and Battery, just incase there's sometime residue left from the manufacturing.

Just cleaned the battery contacts and the psp contacts with a tiny bit of white spirit and it works perfectly! Orange light on and looks like its charging fine
                    Cheered me up no end
The battery contacts are very small maybe was a bit of dust in there, esp considering I'd re-inserted the battery about 10 times.
Just as I was typing this it cut out again. Re-inserted it twice and it worked again. Weird!

                    Cheers for the help anyway
