How much does the picture quality increase with an RGB Scart cable?

How much does the picture quality increase with an RGB Scart cable over a composite cable?

    Is it a significant increase?

or is the increase very small and barely noticeable?

It's very noticable if you ask me.

Well worth the tenner or whatever you pay for it.

On my PS2 the difference was very noticable, but not as much on my Xbox. Probably because the Scart that comes with the PS2 is naff so there was a greater difference.

For a start you'll get stable colours and less bleeding, which is the worst thing about composite...

Anything is better than composite... S-Video, even.

on my xbox the quality is loads better than composite. everything is much more crisp and clear, there's a fair amount of graininess from the standard connection which is all cleared up.

i paid ?25 for my advanced scart but it's fantastic.

Composite is like having tracing-paper over your screen

S-Video is much better but not 100%.

RGB is perfection! The clarity, sharpness and lack of bleeding make things appear as the designer intended.

I have used RGB all my life and whenever I have had the misfortune to be confronted with composite, it always shocks me how bad even the best games can look!

I can't even play without RGB anymore, composite just looks like a blurry mess in comparison.

I agree that the PS2 sees the biggest improvement through RGB. The X-Box and GC can get away with composite to be honest.

A composite image from a PS2 is entirely different, not only do the colours bleed, but they are dull. Also, the image is grainy and its hard to make out objects in the distance.

After saying that, I'd buy an RGB lead for whichever console I had... peace of mind.

The friend I'm staying with here in the US at the moment, until November just gone, had never experienced anything better than composite in her life. Then she wanted a new TV so I went for the works within the budget she had: widescreen, component inputs, surround sound setup.

Plug in the Gamecube, boot up a game through component and prog scan for the first time... she exclaimed it was like playing her games all over again it was such a difference. I think I gained another convert there

Ditto when we connected the PS2 through component as well...

(and yes, for the record, she is a hardcore gaming girl which is double bonus!)
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

RGB is the daddy especially when it comes to red-heavy stuff. The most blunt and blatant demonstration I can tell you to try is to look at the boot screen on a PSone in composite and RGB. Check out the red edge against the black background. The wibbly wobbly world of composite or the crisp and clear world of RGB. The choice is yours, though there really is no comparison.
The difference in display quality between an RGB-modded N64 and the bog-standard item is also very noticable due to Nintendo's seemingly constant knack of using ****ty composite/RF encoders. The XBox composite encoder is actually very good, hence why there's not much noticable difference. The quality of your composite and S-Video are also heavily dependent on your TV and that even varies between similar models from the same manufacturer.
I also modded my Master System for RGB because like the other guy said, it's really hard to go back once you're used to it

I use S-Video with my Xbox because I only have one Scart socket that caters for RGB and the Sky+ box uses it with my DVD player daisy chained through Sky+ to make use of it too.

The Gamecube gives out a really awful composite picture - it's a console where you have to have either an RGB scart or component cable.

which is better: RGB or Component inputs? and to add a bit of a twist, would VGA be able to compete with them?

There's little difference (on a CRT) between RGB and component (at least to my eyes). It's only worth making the jump to component if you're also jumping to prog scan.
