    Component Help? (PS2)

I've just purchased a component cable for my PS2 (Pal) but I'm having problems getting it to work, I wondered if anyone can help.

I've plugged it in properly (red blue green : video / red white : audio) and i've set my ps2 to Y Pa/Ca, Pr/Cr output. But I get no picture. So I used the old scart cable and got a picture, plugged component back in, got a picture. But it was all ****ed, colour was very very wrong (very reddy/purple) and was flickery and not on the screen properly.

So I loaded up God of war (USA) with the scart cable in, went to change to Prog Scan, got it ready for me to hit X to confirm and switched cables back. Blue screen -> hit x -> screen appears, YAY. Picture is awesome but colours are ****ed. Its reddy purple again, really not the correct colours at all.

Can anyone help me? Is my TV ****ed? Its only 4 days old but this is the first time I've used the component input...

    Thanks.

Odd colours through component can sometimes mean that one of the colour channels isn't being input/output properly..

What cable did you buy? Is it cheap-ass?

Is it the cable? If so, can you direct me to the one I should get?

I've managed to actually get a game to work in progressive scan WITH a major colour problem, here's how.

                1) Using OLD PS2 cable, boot game up (tried with God Of War US and Tekken 5 US).

                2) Go to options menu and choose progressive scan, select yes but DONT hit "X"

                3) Swap to component cable

                4) With blank screen, hit "X". Screen flicks into life in progressive scan mode, looks wonderful with one small drawback.

The colours are ****ed, its overly purple, and looks all wrong because of it.

So thats how I managed to get it working. Here's some more info.

If I turn the PS2 on with component cables in, I get NO PICTURE WHATSOEVER.

If I turn the PS2 on with the old scart lead in, go to "System configuration" and THEN swap cables to component, I get a picture but its flickering all over the place like crazy, very purple and red. The top of the pic has extended of the top of the screen and is now on the bottom.

If I then go back out of the menu, the pic dies again. Blue screen etc.

I really don't understand this. I've checked every cable a hundred times, they are correct. Even with just the green cable in (black & white) it still flickers like mad. Yet when I DO get it working in game, its stable but purple... I've no other method of testing my tv for progressive scan until my new dvd player arrives, which is why I'm posting here. If its a problem with my tv I can get a replacement. Or is my PS2 knackered?

I am SO gutted, I was SO looking forward to playing God Of War in progressive scan on my nice new TV. I've only played the first level, I've been saving the game for this moment!

                HELP!

So that would be my prob? Doesn't the PS2 output in 576?

In that link, it states it works in all aspects?

The PS2 doesn't output PAL progressive (576p)... it outputs NTSC progressive (480p), the same as an Xbox will...

Your tv will accept that. PAL progressive, as a format, sucks and games don't use it (50hz refresh, for a start).

So far, there really is NO reason why this shouldn't be working then.

                        Suggestions?

Do you have any other equipment (i.e. dvd player) that can output a component signal to test whether your tv is working properly?

If not, it sounds like your PS2 component cables might be borked.

I had to swap my first Toshiba PF2 tv (similar to yours) because the progressive scan on it didn't work properly (I got nasty cross-hatch interference on it).

Well I'll know in a couple of days if its the tv since my new DVD player should arrive soon.

If it IS my TV, how do I go about getting a replacement? To the manufacturer or the sales point?
