Current system HDD into new PC..?

My current PC has a 40GB hard drive, partitioned into C: and D: Basically, C: is system, D: is iTunes.

I've just ordered a new PC with a big old hard drive which will be the new system drive, but I'd like to stick this old drive into the new PC as well.

Will the new Windows treat the introduction of the drive with due courtesy and respect for the hours that have gone into ripping CDs, or will it think, "oh-hooo, there's a new hard drive. I'll format that bastard, straight away".

might be an idea to format the system partition though. I just did the same thing as there's some zero length temporary internet files that are completely undeletable through windows.

So, on my existing PC... ummm...

...start it up with the XP CD in and tell it to delete the C: partition, then put the old HDD into the new PC?

Or just install it as it is, and format the old C: from within the new Windows?

It shouldnt have to format anything. Just power down your system, plug the new harddrive into one of your spare IDE cables, power back up and the new harddrive will appear in My Computer. Right click the new drive and do a quick format on it, and then its ready to use.
