    Converting tower servers into Rackmount?

    Has anyone ever done this?

Googling isnt giving me much options, but basically i want to convert our messy towers into rackmounts

Any idea's as to where i can get the kit?

    cheers

DELL, Motorola, even Apple for the servers. The killer is the price of the racks and fittings themselves...

Have a look around, you may be better off keeping the towers unless there is a real need/ spare dosh.

You didn't mention who manufacturers the servers. If it's the likes of HP/Compaq and IBM et al then they sell conversion kits.

Cool, that's the rack. But remember to factor in the cost of a chassis to put it in and you'll be wanting a baystack for your network connections?

BTW, where will this chassis go? They make a hideous amount of noise so their best off in an air-conditioned room of their own where no-one works permanently.

We have a dedicated server room so thats OK, and we already have 2 wall mounted com enclosures.

We started off from 1 server and now have 8 and it is a bit messy with all them all over the place. A nice server cab would be grand. They can be suprisingly cheap on ebay (if you can arange delivery that is)

However 8 x ?100 for the cases + the chassis for each would put a big hile in my budjet for a while

I worked for a HP reseller and i never came across a conversion kit for the ML series servers, HP just sold them in tower and rack configurations. It might be worth taking the feet off the dell servers and placing them on a rack shelf. Not too sure if this would invalidate your warranty.
