    bootlog? RE: Slow startup

Once I've logged in on my laptop, it sits there showing me my desktop background (nothing else) for between 1 and 4 minutes. No harddisc activity.
Any ideas? I tried clicking on "/bootlog" in msconfig, but I can't find where it keeps the info. Everything else runs fine after that.
    Many thanks

    WinXP?

Look for a file called Ntbtlog.txt in your windows directory (system32 _I think_).

But it looks to me like this may be due to servicea starting up or domain controller problems.

Download a little app. called Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin. Run that and it'll tell you most of the stuff that starts up as Windows starts, disable anything you don't need.

Is this before it shows any icons, and is it by any chance connecting to a windows 2000 domain controller?

If so I had this nightmare and I have the solution

Sounds like some process is trying to access something unavailable over the network and it's stalling until it times out.

Simple test is to unplug the Wireless card / uninstall it and see whether that makes a difference.

If it's any help, a mate has had the same problem with his router at home - he needed newer drivers.
