    Powerbook Mice

Just bought a new PowerBook (my first Mac - very very happy with it, not least because I can play WarCraft from the comfort of my sofa, oh and trhat F9, F10 and F11 stuff is just ace, absolutely ace) and I've been looking at cordless mice.

Ideally something with more than one button that works on the built in bluetooth reciever so I don't have to carry a USB dongle with me (I'll lose it in days guaranteed). Can't find anything though. Apple have one but its only one button

Oh and my PowerBook is nearly always connected to a 804.11g (the 54Mbs one) wireless network so something that doesn't intefere with that is essential (I've heard that some of the bluetooth gadgets do).

    Any recommendations?

I'm using a wired USB mouse and currently have little intention of using a Bluetooth one. It's mainly because there aren't decent bluetooth mice on the market. There is a logitech one, but that's huge, expensive, and uses rechargables so I don't know what the battery life is like (important cos I, like you, am using a laptop) and I don't want to carry the charging hub.

If you insist upon buying one, then:

has some. Apple also make a BT mouse, but it only has the one button. For now, I'm happy with using a wired laptop mouse, very responisve and I'm not at all bothered about the wires.

Expose is wicked. When did you get the laptop? Because they are releasing the new operating system on Friday, and if you got it very recently, you may be able to get it for ?10 or so. Also learn the shortcut keys such as apple-Q to quit a program and apple-R to reload a page in internet browser, they become invaluable.

I use the Microsoft "Wireless Optical Notebook Mouse".

It's a tiny little Intellimouse, wheel, optical... and the USB receiver snaps into the bottom of the mouse itself for when you carry it around. The moment you snap it in, the laser turns off. It's nifty and tiny, and ?24 from Amazon; the mouse itself uses 1 AAA.

Only problem I have is on my PB (12" first rev, 867mhz) it doesn't register dragging very well - it drops the mouse button input halfway through the drag, which would make it terrible for most gaming. Still, for being ergonomic and not being a trackpad, it's very good, and the fault may not exist with new USB 2.0 pbs (also, it's definitely not the mouse - works fine on my PC at work).

Highly recommended, and that's despite a fault that peeves me.

(http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...2.LZZZZZZZ.jpg is it - the receiver clips in underneath when not in use).

I bought it on Saturday. Its one of the 15" PowerBooks (the 1.5GHz one) with 1 Gig of RAM. I wanted something that "just worked" for non-gaming use (working on my website, checking my mail, browsing the web from my sofa, that kind of thing) and had heard great things about the PowerBooks and so after a fiddle went for that. I love it to bits already. Its so well made. Nice to look at. And everything is so well thought out: hardware and software.

After years of Windows MAC OS X is a real eye opener. The thing really is rock solid and a doddle to use and beautiful to look at. It makes using the machine a pleasure.

And Expose... wake up Microsoft... where is this in Windows eh? Seriously I keep hitting F9 at work now... its driving me mad

I've already got myself applied for the free upgrade to Tiger. Looking forward to the search stuff.

Back to mice... that MS mouse sounds neat with the USB dongle that sits in the mouse when not in use. I might not lose that. Maybe.

Edit: Oh and I still grin like an idiot when it gets dark and the keyboard lights up
