    (1) PS1 laser prob, and (2) PS2 dvd playback prob?

    (1) Believe it or not, I never owned one of these! Anyway, after seeing countless ones for sale at the car boots, I decided the kids would probably like one to mess about with in their bedroom. Bought a tidy looking set up for a grand total of ?3.50! However, all I get is the mem card and cd screen menu, and it doesn't appear to read games or cds (disc doesn't spin either). Is this a laser problem? Out of all of those consoles to choose from have I managed to buy a lemon?

    (2) PS2 with a really dodgy looking 3rd party scart lead. Game discs display fine, but dvd playback is really dodgy. Basically the colour is distorted (the image is predominately green). Is it likely to be the lead, or something else?

Apologies for the bump....Thought I'd have one more shot at getting a reply. Thanks.

Sounds like you've bought a lemon to me but for ?3.50 you can't complain. If the disk isn't spinning then it could suggest a problem with the drive itself but whatever the problem is it would probably work out cheaper to pick up another console than try and repair the one you've got.

Thanks for that, thought I might be buying another one.... Perhaps you can answer one more question for me. Inherited a PS2. Came with a really dodgy looking 3rd party scart lead. Anyway, game discs display fine, but dvd playback is really dodgy. Basically the colour is distorted (the image is predominately green). Is the scart lead the most likely candidate, or could it be something else?

No it's the PS2. It's Sony's attempt to prevent people copying DVD's to tape. Keep the scart lead as it's RGB!

So you're saying that this dvd playback is normal???

Yes. You cannot officially watch DVD's using an RGB Scart lead on the PS2, you've gotta use an AV lead... sucks eh?

Discs like DVD Region X and Action Replay get around this.

Okay...understand now. That does does suck a big one though! Do the Region X and Action Replay work 100%?
