Jap Dreamcast on a VGA monitor

I've got a Jap Dreamcast and have tried connecting it to my montior buit it doesn't seem to work. I have a flatscreen TFT montior as well as a CRT one but am getting a picture from neither. Do I need a Pal Machine?

Sounds like the VGA box your using is dodgy

managed to get a picture but it's not exactly crystal clear (there seems to be lines running through everything. I always thought everything should be mega sharp. Is this because I'm using a TFT monitor?

Probably. Try adjusting the Phase and Clock settings in your monitor's menu. Or press the AUTO button.

where did you get your vga box?
if it's properly made there shouldn't be any problem.
I'm using hagis vga box I picked off ebay years ago and it works like treat with ntsc-j/ntsc-u/pal dc on lcd monitor as well as plasma screen...
