    overheating Dreamcast

I swapped over a power supply board from a UK DC (bought from ebay for a few quid) that wasn't loading games to my NTSC Dreamcast so I don't have to use a stepdown adaptor. Anyway I did this sometime last year and the console hasn't seen much use until recently...

After about say, an hour and a half of play the inside of the disc tray seems too hot and when I take the discs out of the machine they're very warm. Anything to be concerned about? I don't remember game discs ever being noticeably hot when taking them about of my old UK DC when I still had it a few years back.

my DC disc's don't get hot, shouldn't worry about it (until it goes bang). Don't mean to insult you but take it the fan is connected and working OK

Yeah, the fan was one of the first things I checked. No problems there.

It can't be good that the inside of the DC feels more like a radiator than a games console though. Maybe I should try another replacement power board.

I have had 6 Dreamcasts in my time.

4 have died of overheating PowerVR chipsets, and I take good care of my units, for the most part.

        ....

I did exactly the same thing with my dreamcast a while back, and it seems to be fine. I'll try playing it for an extended period over the weekend and let you know what happens. i am a little worried now though...

Lol I know, it's quite baffling. But trust me, I really do. I can only put it down to overuse or something.

I've had 2 Dreamcasts overheat on me... but I think I abused them with 15 hour solid play for weeks on end :P especially when PSO came out...

Yeah, during the PSO days I had mine cut out on me. Never had it get very, very hot though.

my overclocked DC can get very hot - you can't out the hand on the side for much longer without feeling of burning... but it seems ok as I used it for several hours long Shenmue II session with no poblem - though I don't use it for daily. I have few normal DC for that.
