    Mac cannot see network shares

I bought a mini-mac yesterday, and am having a problem connecting it to my network shares. My network is domain based, and although the mac can see the server and client computers in the domain, and also is issued a DHCP address from the server, it cannot actually browse files within the server. Upon connecting Im prompted to provide username and password as expected, however despite using admin account credentials it refuses to accept the connection.

Ive only looked into this briefly so far, but does anyone know of any issues connecting mac's to a windows domain? As it stands I could quite easily revert to a workgroup, and then I suspect there would be no problems, but it would be nice to have it join my existing domain.

what you can do is goto finder, then click go at the top and connect to server then enter the ip of the computer you want to browse

Ill give that a try, my server and other clients do show when I use network browsing though. Im assuming that its a domain not a workgroup is whats causing it to fail at this point.

Have you tried working with Services For Macintosh on the windows server? From the way I understand it it then allows you to designate files/folders as being mac accessible.

        Have a quick look here.

Apologies if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Make sure you have windows sharing enabled

My Girfriends Mac takes ages to bring up the servers in the network screen so its easiest to access the Mac from my PC and transfer files that way.

Check out the free software called sharepoints.. makes it nice and easy to setup shares esp when you want windows machines to contact to mac drives !

Ive been told I need to set up SMB shares for this, as yet Ive not gotten round to trying it out though. Its a shame I cant seem to simply browse the network and add shares, seeing as the functionality to do so is apparantly there.

Thanks Matt, if I cant achieve this reasonably Ill check that sotware out.

I fixed this by editing the local security policy of my domain controller to allow for unencrypted connections, now the shares appear when I browse the network from my mac and they are added as SMB shares. If anyone needs the precise thing I did post here, and Ill check when I get home.

macosX uses SAMBA - you should be able to enable encrypted passwords by looking at the config file, probably.

                      if you can be bothered
