    Fake SNES carts?

I know the GBA pirate cart thing on eBay is rife. Is the same thing likely to be going on with SNES games? Most of the auctions for the games I want are cart only, which makes me a little suspicious.

But the decent boxed copies cost upwards of ?70.

Am I likely to be safe?

Whilst there was some SNES game piracy it really wasn't that widespread. Most of the games are cart only because people threw out the boxes. The reason that boxed copies in good nick sell for so much is because they've become something of a rarity.

I worked at an import game store during the 8 / 16bit era and the only fake SFC carts that i knowingly saw were Streetfighter II Turbo and for some reason Bomberman Certainly wasn't aware of any others doing the rounds at the time and i persoally doubt that any have been made since.

The easiest way to tell with just the cartridge is that the plastic always seemed to be slightly smoother than originals and occasionally the sticker was ever so slightly blurrier than an original. Although not by much.

Plus, there's those "PAL" converted fakes of Super Mario RPG, Seiken Densetsu 3 etc to watch out for. I remember seeing those being sold for crazy money on ebay

As with the GBA- don't buy Hong Kong games- or anything suspicious!

But there is lots of work involved in making them, so the price is justified imho, well for SD3, it would be cheaper to buy a US snes and a copy of Mario RPG.

I remeber going into a second-hand shop in my high street back when I was still in Secondary school a few years ago. I saw a fully packaged, brand new copy of Tiny Toons Advenures: Buster Busts Loose for the SNES, but it had absoultely no Nintendo branding on the package, cartridge or instruction manual whatsoever. Not even the infamous Nintendo "Seal Of Quality"!
