Tell me about the PC Linux

I have the same problem with FC3 and Firefox mt50. Havn't been bothered to hunt down the config. file which might sort this out yet.

In fact, I've pretty much stopped using linux and switched back to Windows XP - as some people in the Mac thread were saying it's very annoying going from knowing pretty much everything about Windows to knowing nothing about linux.

That and having to re-compile the kernel (and thus having to install the gcc compiler and all its dependencies) just so that I can install the Nvidia drivers - ah!

Hopefully I'll have to develop on it at some point and get used to it through work, but for now it's relegated to a dusty partition of my HDD.

I run Ubuntu and I really like it. Its the first GNU/Linux distribution that was easy ...

Are there any GUI's which look like Apple? I figure apple is pretty much Unix now, so maybe.....

I know I've seen one theme which is crafted to look like Apple, can't remember where I saw it though.

But if you want Apple, you need to buy Apple, it'll just be a KDE/GNOME way of doing things wearing an Apple frock.

same here think i will go back to windows XP, i just don't have the time or will to figure out how to get everything working shame has it seems like it would be great if you could use it

Get a good book.... It takes a while but you'll never wanna go back again... Plus if you have stuff that you can only do in windows, why not just use Wine and never leave linux ever again.

I haven't played with Linux since red hat 6.0 so I'll give it a go.

Which version shall I try, for stress free install/drivers on a newish Dell with Radeon 9800pro ?

To be honest any of the distros (apart from Gentoo or Debian) should give you a easy install. Ubuntu has been really good and I also hear good things about Fedora Core. You'll get quite a shock if the last time tried Linux was Red Hat 6 though Things have improved a fair bit since then. Not perfect but a lot better.
