    nvidia 6600gt agp 128gddr3 PROBLEM!!!

    Hi folks,

i have just installed the above card into my p4 3.00ghz, 1024 mhz ddr400 pc,
now the card is running fine at a good temperature etc, but i'm having a weird problem with the textures on the screen, when playing a game(we'll take half life 2 as an example) parts of a texture will be missing/transparent.

this isn't a rare occurance, but the strange thing is all background textures are fine, its just character models!?

if anyone has encountered this problem can you advise me what i need to do?

i have all the latest drivers, direct x9 etc.

    thanks

I get the same if my 6600GT is overclocked too highly, you running it at standard memory and cpu speeds ?

500mhz core and 1000mhz memory, thats standard isn't it?

when i set the options(coolbits)to no overclocking, the core goes down to 300mhz????? and then the system tell me that its lower than the manufacturer default speeds when i click ok??

This happened to me when I bought the same card as yours (XFX made). Make sure you've un-installed your previous drivers and install the latest drivers from NVidia (or Omegadrivers if you fancy some with a bit of optimisation (which I've never noticed a difference with)).

The important thing is that you're old drivers are completely gone - do a search in google for grahics driver removal - there is a tool whose name i cannot remember atm.

Yeh what he said, I have this card and haven't ever had a problem with it unless I overclock it too far. Get rid of the old drivers and it should be fine.

Run Driver Cleaner 3 to in safe mode to remove all traces of the old drivers.

also does the vram sink quality differ with different 6600's?

The heatsink or the memory itself? I know that my card doesn't have memory heatsinks - I'm pretty sure that they are the exception rather than the rule in 6600GTs.

The memory itself will vary in quality depending on who made the card, but all cards should be able to function without any problems at normal clock speeds - if you think it's the memory playing up, send it back under warranty.

run driver cleaner and install the whql 74.89 drivers if that doesn't sort it disable side band addressing and fast writes to take some stree off of the agp bus, and if that doesnt work then its probabaly faulty memory and its time to RMA it!
