Xbox not reading discs

Im wanting to update my friends chipped UK Xbox, and am wanting to put the newest release of Slayers onto it. However, none of the 6 or so different discs can be read by his Thomson drive, Ive tried the same discs in my Xbox and they are read fine. Any ideas of a brand which is sure to work with Thomson drives, or suggestions on an alternate way for me to update his Xbox?

I've got a thomson drive in mine and usually use either Ritek G03 or G04 dye DVDr's or verbatims (My personal fav)
