i've been using PDP since 2002 so by the time blueray and hd-dvd is common I will get new PDP or what ever flat panel available and retire the PDP for game use... (I should be finally able to make Steel Battalion Room set-up!)

I can wait until next January for a new TV. Are there any plans by Panasonic or the like to have 1080P enabled screens out by then?

Samsung (or was it Fujitsu? sorry, I've forgotten) do a 1920x1080 display, but it's a 50" LCD, not a plasma. Getting that number of plasma pixels all working and small enough isn't an easy thing to do, so the only screens with the res are LCDs (or various projectors) so far.

Maybe Sony are talking crap when it comes to 1080P. No one even mentioned the resolution until Sony spouted it!

What is 1080i like on a good Panasonic plasma? Microsoft have said 1080i with the 4x MSA makes 360 games looks amazing.

I guess a lot of people will be happy with 720P though!

It probably does support 1080p, but the problem is it's not a standard as such.

480p isn't HD unlike Microsoft like to claim.

There is talk of 1080p/24 being used on the HD-DVD format, and obviusly it would be nice to have it on a game as you loose jaggies.
I would take 1080i over 720p for most video stuff, but prefer 720p for gaming stuff.

1920x1080p plasmas are a way off as yet, really expensive due to failure rates.

And the 1080 lcd is horrible, picture smears, and the blacks are just......well there not black so the whole image just looks washed out.

The new Panny Viera 500 is a great set, HD ready and gives you that great panasonic picture that is very CRT like.

                  gizze,

what do you mean by failure rates?

The higher the resolution and the bigger the panel gets the higher the failure rate is on production, at the moment a 1920x1080 plasma is too difficult to manufacturer as too many would fail.

                      ah, okay.
probably only matter of time till they get it right though, plasma resolutions have been steadily rising in the last couple of years, and probably next year or so we'll see 1920*1080 plasmas on a bigger scale than now.

roumour has it one of our richest man wanted one but Samsung refused to sell since it was one of only working prototype...

My TV does prog but I prefer the 100Hz flicker-free. Then again Coronation Street looks the ****ing same on any screen doesn't it?
