    Q3A Controls Problem + Downloads...

Urgh. I just installed Q3A on my new PC to get back into the swing of it, but i've got a problem binding keys.

    My usual set up is:

    Shoot MB1
    Jump MB2
    Previous Weapon: Mousescrolldown
    Next Weapon: Mousescrollup.

But for some reason it won't save my mouse scrolling opitions.

When I first load up the game and enter the new keys they go in fine. I press back and try to play and they don't work. I check the keys again and they are back to default (Not all the keys, just the two switch weapon ones)...

I have no idea why or how to overcome the problem... Have any of you experienced a similar problem? I looked for the newest updates to download. I found Q3A point release 1.32 and have installed that, but that has done nothing!

    -Thanks!

Never come across that before, very strange. Anyway, you can bind the keys manually by bringing down the console by pressing ` (next to 1) and entering:

    /bind mwheelup "weapprev"

    and

    /bind mwheeldown "weapnext"

    Should work fine

You could also take a look at the default.cfg file and edit that accordingly.

Have you installed the patches yet? Not recognising the mousewheel and third mouse button correctly was a bug in the release version, and you'll need to apply a patch to get it working properly; I had the same setup, and remember having to patch it to work.

edit - oops. I read the post again, and I see that you've got the point release installed already. Its probably the read-only config file, then.

Oh yeah, and check the q3config.cfg file hasn't somehow been made read only which would explain your setting changes not being saved. If you're trying to play a mod like osp or rocket arena, remember that they each have their own q3config.cfg files in their respectice directories which are independant of the baseq3 config file.

Ah, I've got it working now. Thanks.

The problem must have been the release version. I re-installed the Point-Release to see if it would work and it did... I think I may have installed it in the wrong directory or something before.

            Thanks.

Just as a side: Do you know any good sites that let people on 56K modems download some mods such as rocket arena and osp (whatever that is) for free... ...?

            Thanks!

And one more question. Punkbuster. It comes with the latest Q3 Patch, and I can see it when I look to play internet games. But it says that it is disabled. Well, I want to play only on games that require you to have PB on, and well... mine is disabled, does it automatically enable when the server asks or do you have to enable it yourself? Because, I can't see how!

PB is used on servers to check for players cheating, so if you can play on punkbuster enabled servers without getting kicked, you've nothing to worry about. I think it will enable itself when you join a PB enabled server automatically [if it doesn't you'll probably get booted for not having it]

You'll find all the popular and not so popular mods for download on a resumable server HERE [most are quite a large downnload, though - best to read up on them first]

Also, are you using the in-game Q3 server browser to find games? You'd be better off using an external browser like The All-Seeing Eye which lets you refresh, filter and list Q3 and many other game servers by location/ping time/mod etc.

Which ones would you suggest? Are there both on and offline versions?
