Proxy server in a Win 2003 network?

Hello fellow IT amigo's,
Yes that time has come in an IT Managers life when i have to block a number of staff's useage of the internet. They need to have access to a very limited number of sites,so i cant just disable IE or use a public proxy.

It looks like i have to run my own proxy, but i have spent all my budget again so i am looking to the open source.
Can anyone reccomend anything to me on an Win 2003 environment?
I have to be able to fully control the sites available to view.
I Hear Squid is a good one, but its not available on Win, how is it when run on Linux on a Win netwrok?

You can set Apache up to act as a proxy.

You definately want to look into squid, it can control access times for certain user groups, or times of the day, or have fine grain control over which individual users can get online or not.

I havent used it in a windows environment much, but we do have laptops connect every now and again, I remember there used to be a proxy authentication login when you started the web browser, but thats gone now, so I'm not sure how the windows machines get access control donated to them, but the other machines work perfectly.

Cheers guys, Squid would do the biz for us, but on an all windoze environment im not sure its possible. I would like to get some Linux boxes on our domain for my own plans to get us over to open source, so it might be a nice project to look at if given some time.

Theres a great product I use here called safesquid, the free version. Obviously based on squid but super easy to setup and use. The documentation is crap but the install is a breeze on a Linux machine, i think there is a windows version as well but havent tried it.

One advantage is that you can filter websites for viruses and malware using a free scanner such as ClamAV and easly configure it to block by domain name, key word etc.
