Will this ever happen?I can live without an xbox so i dont want to buy one just to play this!I was most disapointed not to see a ps2 version at E3,prehaps the TGS might bring some better news?Anybody heard any news,rumours or otherwise on this?

Arcade Outrun 2 was on the Chihiro board so it was natural to port to xbox...
don't think there will be PS2 port given xbox release wasn't smashing hit...

It was apparently a massive squeeze to get the game into the XBox, when 'all' that they needed to do was get the memory requirements down from 512Mb to 64Mb, as the rest of the hardware is largely the same.
Rewriting the whole thing to work on a PS2, which not only has less power but requires you use its power in a very different way (oh, and only 32Mb, 1/16th of the arcade machine) isn't a port, it's a full-on conversion like we used to have back in the Spectrum days. All for a game that didn't sell particularly well in the first place. Never going to happen, frankly.Comment

This is such a thick question is like me saying "OMG when is Super Mario coming out on my XBOX". Not every game will go multiplatform thats the concept behind a "exclusive" live with it.

and we're forgetting that when outrun 2 was first announced for the home consoles a ps2 port was not only mentioned, but was (if i remember correctly) more likely than an xbox port initially.

Just before xmas there were rumours of a PS2 version. Therefore quite a few people were expecting some sort of announcement from Sega. E3 has passed and it seems the conversion isn't gonna happen- which is what I expected really.
We can all hopefully look forward to OutrunSP being ported to all next-gen systems!

people (translation: the gaming press) 'assumed' that outrun2 would be coming out on 'ps2' simply because it's the 'best selling console' and anyone making games must surely be doing it for 'that' console.
I don't recall any of the other SEGA Xbox stuff coming out on any other consoles (could be wrong), unless SEGA feel they can do it justice. (in my opinion they have best console specific quality) then again RE4 was 'assumed' to be a GCube exclusive and thats headed to ps2, but capcom usually goes where the money is, regardless of quality issues.Comment

The point being that since said gaming press made admittedly baseless claims that a PS2 port was in the offing, it isn't unreasonable to ask what happened to the idea. We've covered why it isn't likely to ever happen, so I guess we're done here...Comment

Outrun 2 PS2 (a sega game who are MULTI platform bringing one of their games onto a popular platform. They don't normally keep to exclusives anyway see Monkey Ball, Sonic and so forth).
