    Web Server reporting?

    Hello there

As part of my company's strategy of laying off staff and giving me all the work for no more money. I have been given the task of reporting on our 2 web servers.
Unfortunatley i havent been given any brief on what should be in these reports, so i am guessing it should be Disk Space/usage, memory useage, processor useage and availability.

I could very easily just manually report on the disk space, but what about the others?
perfmon.msc gives me some wonderfull graphs, but i cant get it to give me a weekly breakdown of memory/disk and processor useage. Does anyone know how to acheive this?

Say a automated report over the last week that includes

    Disk Capacity 160Gb
    Free Space 55 Gb
    Memory useage over 90% - 567 minutes
    Processor use over 90% - 225 mintes
    Availability - 100%

    etc

Its difficult to get a handle on what i am supposed to be doing as i am dealing with an IT director who reads a headline in a magazine, and asks me do do "that". So sorry about the vagaries of my request

    Cheers

For checking the server health we fine spotlight good.

    Try it from:

Simplify IT management and spend less time on IT administration and more time on IT innovation. It’s time to rethink systems and information management.

Then for the useage, I would try webtrends

Meaningful, Customizable, Digital Analytics Webtrends provides the data you need to measure adoption, user engagement, and usage of Microsoft 365 and custom apps.

But this is from the persepective of working for a Norsk oil company that believes good products, for business critical operations, require investment. Just like the staff.

Alternativly you can try and graph perfmon data "For free" using perl and MRTG, plus use hostmonitor for the services:

Originally for routers, but equally useful for perfmon data.

Hostmonitor: (Is the service alive etc)

So with a bit of perl and some shareware with an email alert (to SMS if you telco allows) will give you something workable on a shoestring.

    Needs must.

Hope that is of some use. Also hope the job improves, sounds lonely.

      Cheers, some good stuff there!

The job is Ok, but as we cant get any, and i mean any experianced C# developers, i just keep getting stuff dumped on me without any explanation as to why.

Still, it beats faffing around with the BCM
