That advanced HD pack will only work on a US or modified Xbox. All it does is play US titles in High def. Completely useless for PAL

[QUOTE=rjwtaylor]Could I throw in a quick question here - if I have a US Xbox and US Gamecube...[QUOTE]

        Please read more carefully.

Secondly, the Advanced HD pack will work perfectly fine for a PAL Xbox, just that it will only work for 480/576i and not HD.

Not so, once you have chipped / soft modded your UK Xbox to NTSC, all UK games will play in prog scan.

              ^ False.

PAL versions of GTA: San Andreas, Kung Fu Chaos, Manhunt, Colin McRae Rally 3 and a heap of EA and Sega sports titles have no support for progressive scan.

Not all LCDs. It always seems to be really crappy looking on the cheaper LCDs. There's not too much difference as far as I'm aware between Interlaced RGB over Scart and Component on some of the more higher end displays. I've heard about LG sets not handling RGB well at all though.

unless it's dedicated (expensive) LCD telly they might have wired RGB internally to composite or somethin...

where did you hear about the LG and RGB mate?
I looked on various avforums and their conclusions are wide ranging.
I've just bought the component pack from game and the missus will bring me the Hi-Def pack from the US next week,I will update later..
The RGB is bloody woeful,I think I might of ****ed up..

It was the AV Forums - I've read about someone else having problems with an LG TV and RGB over Scart.

RGB over Scart is pretty good - but that's on my LCD WEGA and if it wasn't good I'd be a bit pissed off. A much cheaper, larger Samsung TV showed me how bad it could be - colours out the lines and everything.

Samsung (32", 780 pounds) - perhaps using internal wiring similar to what dj898 suggested

Sony LCD WEGA (26", 1500 pounds)

LCD is still developing, you really do seem to get what you pay for. WHether or not you want to pay the (admittedly silly) amounts though is another matter.

                          cheers lyris
hooked up the ?10 component cable and voila it's 100 times better..phew
everything is crisp, colors are solid with little or no separation everything looks like I thought it was going to when I put the scart lead in that 1st time.
now all I need is a component splitter

Component splitter - if you want to spend a fair amount:

About 45 pounds not inc shipping, but well worth it for the convenience of having a solid unit. Anything else I've seen gets wires everywhere.

Lyris, that's not necessarily indicative of them doing something as underhand as converting to composite and back - more likely the shop moron hasn't turned the sharpness down, so it's edge 'enhancing' the hell out of the image. You can see the big artificial black lines either side of the writing.
