    Asda Cheapo LCD tv

Anyone know if it supports progressive scan? it's the only thing i forgot to ask the asda guy about (16ms was pretty much all i cared about) or do all LCD just support progressive scan anyway?

I highly doubt it has a component input for progressive, but it's bound to have a VGA input, if the device you want to use outputs to that.

What size is it and how much does it cost? Also do you know what resolutions it can handle? I`m after one to go with a mac mini so any info would be great.

just looked at one of them myself - no component inputs so a big no-no for proscan (not sure if you can get a component to dvi connector and get pro-scan that way or not)

not a bad price though, though i didn't actually see it running so can't comment on the picture quality

Althougth there's no component, DVI connection suppose to be superior and i expect just xbox360, just like PC's to have VGA and/or DVI connection, hopefulyl the Ps3 would follow suit.

I have a strong feeling the screen is 15:9, not 16:9 like most widescreen TV's are.

If it's not 16:9 for some reason, it's probably 16:10, the weird ratio that some laptop screens use.

There's definitely a VGA cable for the 360 coming, by the way.

John, any ideas if it would be possible to get prog scan with this tv using the VGA input coupled with either an VDIGI or X2VGA+ VGA box? I know you can do using a monitor but not sure if this applies with an LCD TV.

                      Cheers:-)

It's the same input, so as long as it supports the right frequencies the VGA box outputs (very likely) it should work fine.

You might be right. I just remember reading 15:9 on AVForums.

To be honest, I'm still pretty tempted by this, as I need a decent TV but have no room for a large one. But since I have worked at Asda for 4 years, I know better than to buy one of their cheap range items (Pacific/Durabrand/Dual).

Don't buy cheap flat panel TVs. It just isn't worth it. A good panel-based TV needs a high quality panel AND high quality image processing going on behind.

It might be either, but I'd have thought 15:9. Even Sony used this until recently. It just means the edges of the picture will be clipped (something I can live with but wouldn't accept on a newer set).
