DS Rakuhiki Jiten info needed ?

    Hi Guys.

Has anyone bought this ? Or has anymore infomation, on it's
transalting ability ? It seems like a great idea, with the pen input. What
i'd love to know is does it translate Kanji into english or even hiragana ?
I haven't got a DS yet, but i'd definitely get one if it does...

    Thanks in advance.

Its but mere days away from my doorstep, as far as i was aware its both e-j & j-e.

I took a risk getting it as i cant say 100% that it will be fully both ways but it looks like it is from nintendo's site

Your going to need to be able to read kana as its used for all the menus & for searching words.

There was a thread on rllmuk about it. Sounded somewhat disappointing - apparently there's no readings for the kanji and no kanji handwriting recognition. Seems like it's usefulness is rather questionable really.

Thanks for the info, guys. That thread over at rlmuk forum, does sound
disappointing. I was really hoping for it to translate Kanji.

I've been teaching myself Kana, for two, three weeks. I can recognize
both alphabets know, but it's the Kanji that holds me back. Is it me, or is
learning Japanese. Like someone saying to learn English, you'll have to
know Latin ? It was actually the NTSC-uk Guide that got me started.
        Still, find it interesting though...

Hopefuly though, importaku can give a full run down. When he receives
        it...?

Kanji is an odd one. It serves no real purpose aside from tying kids to their school desks for years on end and confusing visiting foreigners. They could move to hiragana only but I suppose they would claim that they would lose their identity, regarding family names and places, etc.

Kanji is difficult BUT it is neccessary. Once you get to a decent level in Japanese you'll realise how difficult it is to read and understand a sentence in JUST Hiragana. The reason being is that you have no idea where the breaks in the sentence are. With Kanji you don't have this problem.

Also, Japanese only has about 100 syllables. English has 3000 odd.
So Japanese has a lot of homonyms. If you want to be able to tell whether it's a bridge or chopsticks they're talking about, you need kanji.
Having gotten used to the structure of them a bit, I tend to find remembering the kanji easier than remembering the pronounciation. There's themes and patterns so you can have an idea as to what things mean, but not have a clue how to actually say it.
Not that my knowledge is that great. I was hoping this bit of software might help me expand my vocabulary. There may be other, improved editions in the future though hopefully...

Yeah, i know what you mean ElAlcesDiablo, about remembering and
pronounciation. Just looking at the book i got the other day, "lets' learn
Kanji". Didn't know about the differen't pronounciations, the Kun and On.
With the amount and position effecting a sentence. The characters
themselves look learnable and pretty logical. Well i hope...

I see what you mean venom743. About the formation of the sentence
and how hard it would be with all hiragana. I've seen game mags with
the kanji and the aquivelent hiragan above them. Which is real handy.

You don't mind me asking, peanuts and vemon743 are you Japanese ?
Or, if you speak Japanese, how did you, learn it ? Do you have any tips
on how to learn faster ?

                Thanks again.

I'm from the UK but have been living in Tokyo for the last 6 years. Got my 1st Grade Proficiency Test qualification a few years back after studying at a Japanese language school intensively for 2 years(5 days a week) and private study before that. Japanese is a very unique, complex language that takes time to get to grips with. Once you've got the basics and are familiar with the basic grammar it becomes a lot easier. I recommend you to get a good textbook such as Genki. It helped me a lot when I started studying by myself.

Cool ! Thanks for info venom743. I try to get hold of that Genki
text-book. I got Japanese for busy people the other day aswell.
Which seems so far, an ok book. I know i won't learn this all over
night. Still hope to speak, read and write basically after a good
                    while of study..

Actually, with all the anime i watch, i should be fluent, eh...

                    Thanks again..!

No Kanji recognition is disappointing... and I would like to see a scientific calculator instead of the basic calculator.

but nevertheless it's very useful for me [Japanese to English]

is the game & watch the only game in Rakuhiki Jiten?? My record is 3700 btw (game b)
