    Xbox Conker trouble

Whenever I try to play this, I get a message telling me my disc may be damaged or dirty and it doesn't load the game. I've tried with two copies of the game and both do the same thing.

Yet my Xbox plays any other game fine.

    What's going on 'ere then?

What drive have you got on your Xbox? Noticed any jerks in your other games, or loading which is slower than usual?

Do you happen to own the US version of conker? I know for a fact that the Thompson drive has problems when it comes to running multi-regional software

You can tell from the look of the tray. See here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=17216

As unlighty says it's the worst of the three. It'll have problems running the newer games, although some games may still run, you'll have longer loading and a few freezes.

For example i bought NBA street V3-the drive really struggled, other games such as Madden 2005 seemed to be fine. But i begun to notice terrible marks on my discs. I could play Madden for an hour or so, but it wasn't stable, and would finally DDE on me. Recommend replacing the DVD drive, preferbaly with a Samsung. Not too expensive on E-bay if you hunt for a deal. Got one for ?27, when they usually sell for close to ?50, just because it was a couple of months old!

Not too hard, just need a Torx 10 and 20 screwdrivee (came in a box of 5 for a fiver in Maplins) and this good guide:

Is this gonna solve the problem, before I shell out for the new drive?

Cheers for all yr help, guys!

Well, you never answered my question (2nd post). At the moment i'm only giving you an educated guess. Constant DDEs are normally a sign of a ****ed up Disc drive, especially with a thompson drive-particularly an early model!

Yeah it'll fix the problem - I've got an xbox with the Samsung which is only 1.5 years old and it won't boot Forza - tried a couple of copies now - it boots but only every so often and once it boots the game runs fine - it just can't seem to read the little boot sector.

My other (chipped) xbox has a thomson drive and I've had it since The US Xbox launch and it's still going strong - go figure.

But yeah - A new drive is what you need. Annoying isn't it !

Can't really answer it to be honest! The most recent Xbox game I've got aside from Conker is WC Snooker 2005, which works fine, but I can't compare that to any system heavy game. I can't say I've noticed much of a lull in performance with any games, but I've got nowt to compare it to, and I rarely play on the Xbox as it is!

Don't bother then - not worth it just for the sake of Conker - Get an N64 with a copy from fleabay instead innit 8)

I think it'll cost as much to get Conker on N64 as it will to get a new drive for the Xbox. And I've already got the game...

I've got exactly the same problem with my xbox, conker, forza, ninja gaiden and doa ultimate are just a few of the games that ownt work on it. I'm going to trade it in gamestation, get 60 pounds and then buy another next week.
