    question on vivo graphics cards

Just a quick question, if i has a video card that has vivo, can I run say a gamecube through it so it displays on my monitor? And if so will this be poo?

    Cheers

Yes, and probably yes, sorry. If your Cube is PAL, then you've got the added fun of running in composite and also the fact your monitor won't be running at 50Hz when the game is.

Sorry to revive such an old topic.. but my question was simply far to similar.

Recently I was fortunate enough to buy a new graphics-card for my PC (a 7800GT to be exact 8) ).
Obviously aimed at the pleasures of PC gaming, it wasn't until today I realized that it the card has VIVO.
Well, Video-In got me thinking... and like I said, it's very similar to bangaio's question.

I have a US/Jap Gamecube... would it be possible to hook-it-up to my PC and run those spiffy US games in Progressive-Scan? (...and will it be any good)
..oh, btw: What software does one use to allow Video-In?

I pray Progressive-Scan will work and look better then my "regular" TV, that would be aces (and relieve our livingroom of one (of the many) consoles)

Your video-in will be handled by bundled software, or by loads of freely available stuff, have a google for capture software.

I'd say at a guess that prog-scan is unlikely, as it's not a direct connection to the monitor. It goes in, gets handled by the AGP bus/CPU/ram and then squirted back out and (unless the software has a decent fullscreen option) will then be displayed in whatever resolution size inside the windows resolution.

Also check what connections you have going in in the first place, without the right ones all talk of prog-scan is moot anyway

Good point... I'll report back with my findings (probably on monday..).

You can't do Prog-scan, sorry. The only inputs the VIVO cards normally offer are composite or s-video. Video-In cards that can take progressive-over-component are a good ?100 or more.

So while (if you're lucky) it won't look much worse than running on the normal TV, if you want prog-scan on your monitor you're going to need one of those standalone VGA boxes.

Oh well... I'll just go ahead and set it up anyway. And make some screen grabs... (it IS vivo.. so)
And I'll post the screenies on monday, so we can all judge the quality of a GC running on a TFT/7800GT-vivo-thingy combo

              *cheers* !

The pics in The Rumble Fish review on this site are taken from my sub-?20 capture card and stretched upward (because the interlaced pics are half-height), you can get nice results.

If your card is compatible with a program called dscaler give that a try, it lets you select custom resolutions and such. I say if because i'm not certain it supports vivo cards but you can get a leadtek winfast capture card that'll do the job alongside your gtx for about 20 quid or so.

                  http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/

and some pics of it in action:
