piracy statistics Uk

help me to prove the bloke sitting opposite me in my office. He reckons the ammount of piracy that occurs in the uk is really high. He said that about 90% of games owned in the uk are pirated!

I say it's probably less than 10%. This argument is seriously ****ing me off and I really need someone to supply me with the actual statistics.

www.elspa.co.uk are the people that report and track that sort of thing. They reckon piracy costs ?2billion in lost sales in the UK.

No way is it anywhere near 90%. I'd say like 20% myself or roundabout. If even that, I don't know anyone from uno, work or all my mates who uses copied games now.

Don't think many people have chipped PS2 (I dont know anyone that has a chip apart from importers). So presumably PS2 piracy is very low.
I imagine PC piracy is rampant.

Hes probably confused with areas in Asia, where Id fully expect a 90% piracy rate on games.

From a 2004 survey, the highest rates of piracy were (in the EU) Greece 63%, Poland 58%, Lithuania 58%, Latvia 57%, Estonia 54%, France 44%, Spain 45% and Italy 49%, Denmark 26%, Austria 27% and Sweden 27%, In the UK 29%. There are many countries were it is reported to be in the 90%, such as Vietnam, China, Ukraine and Zimbabwe.

I have no issue with people who buy pirated stuff or download, it's their problem, but I do have an issue with people who will argue with me until they are blue in the face that I am a mug for paying ?30 for a game and pirating it is the more sensible way
