DS Wireless Play over Internet - What's the 411?

At the moment DS users can communicate with others using Pictochat, and play games wirelessly. But at E3 they talked out connecting the DS to your existing wireless network to play people worldwide.

Is there any news on how/when this will happen (more specific than Christmas - is that worldwide?). Presumably you'll need some software on your DS? Where from?

Will all current wireless games support it or just the ones that have some sort of online GUI built in? I know Mario Kart is planned for it but I thought there was another - was it Advance Wars DS?

    Thanks

I wrote this post a few weeks back, this set up will let you play DS games online (wireless) and Xbox games too. You wont need any software for your DS to play online as the DS already has a wireless fuction to play online built into the handheld.

Sorry I think you misunderstood my post. I have a wireless network set up already, my Xbox is wirelessly connected etc.

I meant how will the DS connect to the router? It doesn't work at the moment (unless I am doing it wrong) to play games over the internet, presumably the games will offer some sort of Friends List device/interface.

The DS will automatically connect to your wireless router, as the handheld has wireless fuctionality already built-in. The reason you cannot connect the DS to your router right now is because no game currently supports online wireless play, the first will be Mario Kart DS, which is out later this year.

Ah right I see. So there can't be online Pictochat either then?

which is bizarre, as the DS supports max 32 connections, whereas there are 64 in pictochat if every room was full.
