    lol I'm confused now..

Ok ignore progressive scan! I don't want that. If I can use my RGB cable on a 21 pin scart socket that's ALL I need!! So, does the above TV accept this?

I've looked on toshiba.co.uk and the TV in the very first post in this thread seems to be the "28Z23" model there, which is the "?28Z23B" on empire direct. Are these TVs the same then just to clarify?

Lastly, clicking on the specifications page of the "28Z23" on Toshiba brings up a page for another TV!! (look at the name of the page at the top) 28ZD26 in fact. Does this mean the specs are the same?

    god this is complicated!

Sorry ignore that, I clicked above the tv on the specs button instead of below.

I don't want prog. scan, all i need is for that first TV, the Toshiba "28Z23B" (as stated on empire direct) and "28Z23B" (as stated on Toshiba-are these the same tvs?) to support RGB THROUGH A SCART SOCKET, not any other means. Thanks!!

To get RGB you would need a RGB cable and a RGB compatible SCART socket. I think i'm right in saying that (nearly) all modern TV's have at least 1 RGB compatible SCART socket.

Which TV are you actually looking at now?

Connectors for the Tosh 28Z23B can be found at:

From what i can tell it hasn't got any RGB compatible SCART sockets. Seems odd.

              Hi mate

I did answer you on avforums too.

yeah that tv will do what you want it to do

              it has the following connections

              3 SCART sockets
              Component Video Input
              RGB Input (via SCART 1)
              Side AV sockets
              S-Video compatible
              3.5mm headphone socket

RGB on scart 1 and component too for a dvd player or if you decide to use component instead or RGB.

              just order it

Hold on...the "28Z23B" Toshiba doesn't have 3 scarts though!! Sure you're looking at the same TV as me?

The one we're conflicting on is at:
                    http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/produc...ode=TOS-28Z23B btw!

I'm sorry for being the dumbest s***!

We need to clarify the tv I keep going on about (http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/produc...ode=TOS-28Z23B) accepts RGB by one of the scarts. That's all!
It does have 2 though, not 3 sockets-that's why I'm still confused!

Must admit i am totally confused now. On both graphics i've seen of the Tosh 28Z23B's connectors it does only show 2 SCART's.

                          That's correct.

Someone...please find out if one of those sockets accepts a 21pin RGB cable and this confusion can end!

your right i clicked on the model above on the tosh website which is the 26p

                            however yours has

                            2 SCART sockets
                            Side AV Input
                            RGB Input
                            Headphone socket

                            THERE IS NO CONFUSION !!

rgb is on the scart, there are no tvs that take rgb any other way in the uk, apart from 1 or 2 high end ones that can take rgb on the component inputs with the sync on green, and a couple that take RGB/HV but lets not get into that ****

if you want to plug a modded RGB cable in, or RGB from any source from that matter via scart, then just get your card out order the thing and smile

                              RIGHT!

I'll order the bloody thing already. If it doesn't work though....

                              Thanks for all the help!

Hey Weinburg, sorry to be late in my reply. I presume you haven't / won't order until tomorrow anyway.

Ok, the difference between the 28Z23 and the 28Z27 is that the more expensive model, the 28Z27 has Virtual Dolby Surround.

I don't know whether this is an issue for you. Personally, I think that Virtual Surround is a bit of a waste of time. If you're bothered about audio you're going to use Pro-Logic II (for GC) or something a bit more high-end. If you're not bothered about audio then it's not going to make any difference, and you might as well save yourself the ?50.

The sound is quite good anyway (from what I remember). There's an extra bass setting which works really well, not just a gimmick and it's very clear, defined and the Stereo seperation is nice.

What Yashiro said about Progressive Scan CRT's (aka what you're looking at) is fairly true. They are in their infancy and there are problems. I've seen those posts on AV Forums about the tearing. I haven't experienced those problems, and trust me I looked for them. However you've stated that Prog. Scan isn't something you're interested in so ignore the above.

I'm pretty sure that the RGB on the Toshiba 28Z23 is very good and that you will be impressed. The S-Video is alright as well from what I remember.

If it's not clear, or been mentioned already, RGB IS accepted on AV1.

If you're going to go ahead with the 28Z23, then I would recommend RGB Direct. You can find the Tosh here. It's ?396.99, which is more expensive than Empire Direct, but delivery is free, unlike Empire Direct.

I have found RGB Direct to be very good in past experience. They really do act as middle men. I placed the order on (I think) a Wednesday afternoon. Got a confirmation phone call on Friday morning, they also asked if I wanted any leads/cables/accessories (no hard sell), more polite than anything else. Agreed on delivery day/time (following Monday morning). Toshiba then use their own team to deliver the Television. They meant morning: phoned at 7:30am, delivered at 8; set the TV up, showed me how to do the usuals, change channel, volume, teletext. I asked a couple of questions about the Service Mode. Gone by 8:30 / 8:45.

If you've got any more questions, then feel free to ask. From the information supplied here, I think that the 28Z23 would comfortably satisfy your requirements.
