    Soul Calibur PS2 arcade stick

    Hey guys,

Was initially looking for a stick for Tekken 5 but the official is a pain in the arse to get a hold of right now. Was looking at the licensed SC stick and it looks pretty good. Looking to confirm that it will be compatible for T5. Am sure it is fully programmable so if anyone can confirm this is true it will really help with my purchase. Seen it for 20 quid.

It woudl also be great for SC3 which is out later this year.

    Any advice would be welcomed.

    Cheers,
    Paul

It's exactly the same stick and buttons -

This Hori model is superb, I prefer it over the Real Arcade Pro - same good feel but cheaper and doesnt weigh a ton.

Looking at the one that is a cool shape, with the base slimmer in the middle then broadens out at the areas with the stick and buttons. Works on all consoles and think it fully programmable.

With all that how can anyone consider getting anthing else. One solid stick that covers all console and all games, that is amazing. And for 20 quid I dont think I have to really think about this much more.

It does look sweet and will be great for SC3 and possibly DOA Ultimate online

        Go for it??

I dont understand what you mean about programmable - but any of the Hori Tekken or Soul Calibur range is exellent.

Any arcade stick works just like a PS1 or 2 controller - it's compatible with any playstation game, unless there's certain requirements (like Ape Escape's need for a dual shock, etc).

Also, there's two licensed SC2 controllers, the american Nuby stick, and the Japanese Hori. if you're looking at the Nuby, I wouldn't bother, personally - the only thing of use in the thing is the multiformat PCB to hack into other sticks. a quick search on this Q&A subforum would give an indication on what Nuby products are like.

Concerning the Hori though, the only thing that you need to be concerned with is that it has only 8 buttons, including start and select - which means that L2 and R2 are missing. the buttons are also in a strange configuration (meant for SC2, natch), but as long as there's a button config option in the game you can evade both of these points.

(also, you can hardwire the stick pcb to switch the button config around permenantly, as well as implement a couple of microswitch buttons to bring back L2 and R2 - but we're getting a bit too technical now, so I'll just leave it at that).

but anyway, I would get the hori if it's 20 quid - good price, that.

OMG man WHY?!?! That thing is as much use for beat em ups as a gearstick with drum pads.

Do yourself a favour and pick up a proper stick! Any of the Hori licenced range is superb.

Hori SC2 stick is your friend. I've got the Cube version, myself.

That Nuby thing is evil, however.

Glad I posted a picture of that thing to get your views boys. This was the only one I could see available in my indie stores line-up at the moment so a Hori import may be required.

As long as it works with Tekken 5 and I can change the buttons then the Hori will be the one. Is the problem with these official sticks that as they make editions for other fighting games they only work for that specific title?

If not and I can get the 4 button Tekken set-up on that Hori SC stick then I am sorted.

I own the KOF version of that Nuby stick. I bought it cos I thought it was pretty at the time - it broke on the second day of mild usage. It now lives on a midden of dead gaming crap.

I've seen a few Hori SC2 sticks floating around in various Forbidden Planet stores - I picked up two myself.

None of the sticks are title-specific; it's all just for decoration & you can use them for what you like (other than analogue only titles of course).

I suppose you might struggle to play other fighting games on the 3-button Virtua Fighter stick though.

I love the Hori SC2 sticks - they're fantastically precise

Mardigan the Hori sticks work with everything - it's just branded for Tekken/Soul Calibur etc.

It's totally a non-issue worrying about button configurations etc, just set them in options mode of the game you're playing.

                              Cheers.

If fail to get a proper stick local will check out import availability. Was only aware of the Nuby stick for SC being available local but will have a check. Cheers for the re-direction boys.

My mate just got the VF4 stick and he is lovin it. Sadly cant get it configured for T5 but his VF gaming has gone through the roof.

Saur, thats what I thought, but just wanted to confirm, cheers.
