    Neo Geo question

This may sound ridiculous - but would it be somehow possible to modify another pad (such as a SNES or Saturn pad) to be compatible with an AES console? I don't get on brilliantly well with joysticks (ducks as arcade beat 'em up purists throw things at me), and the Neo pads themselves are not exactly user friendly either. If only there was some sort of adapter, or a way I could do it.

    Your thoughts please!

It's certainly possible - If I recall correctly, the Neogeo system runs on a DB15 pinout (like VGA cables?), so it's one of the easiest to hack a controller. All it takes is knowing the pinout, and then wiring certain wires to points on the Pad's PCB.

I can't remember the pinout, but it's on GamesX here: http://www.gamesx.com/controldata/neocont.htm

I would recommend having a look at the Pad hacks on the main page as well, to get the gist of what's involved. I would have recommended supergun repository as well (www.sgrepository.com iirc), but it's crashed a few times over the years, wiping out SNES pad hacks and all.

Alternatively, there is joypad converters available - I know lik-sang certainly stock a PS1/2 to Neo converter in their smartjoy section.

    Hope this helps!

      Cheers for that Siri!

The converter sounds the best thing. Will take a look on there. If anyone has one of these for grabs, PM me!

I am getting excited at the thought of playing Neo fighters with my beat em up pad of choice.

I've got a couple of PS2-to-Neo convertors and aside from the odd "unplug and plug back in" to get the CDZ to recognise them, they work perfectly.

Swap you a boxed Neo Hori stick for your contraptions!

Hmmmm... you do realise that you can buy two adaptors for less than the cost of that stick?

I guess I could. However, money is tight at the moment, and I am not bothered about the stick, as I suck at fighters when using anything other than a pad.

I'd just grit your teeth and learn how to use a stick

and watch your game get 10x better.

I doubt you'd go back to a pad once you got used to it, and the original neo stick, mmm , so good.

To be honest, the above. I can't use the Neo pads (I *hate* 'em) - quarter rotations and zig-zags ming. If you're wanting to play fighters SUCK IT IN, BOY! REAL MEN USE STICK!

no matter how good you get with a pad, you'll get your ass handed to you by someone who's good, with a stick.

its better against the computer too

I had a good old sesh on KOF yesterday night with my Hori stick (ooer) and actually got on rather well. I think my main reasons for wanting some of the converters is that when mates are round there isn't really enough room to use two or even one stick without obscuring the screen, and everyone I know dislikes the Neo pad!

                              Nice one!

Obscuring the screen? Sounds like you need 15 pin extension cables

(decent ones are harder to find than Christs mother in a pub, or something)
