Had a scare yesterday..

.. when my entire music directory (over 160GB, painstakingly sorted out and ID tagged) disappeared off my server. When viewing, the filesystem was no longer NTFS, but instead was as RAW instead. 0 bytes were found, and a search for *mp3 brought back nothing - it had totally disappeared.

Upon a reboot of my server which is 2k3 Server OS, thankfully everything reappeared as normal.

Ive purchased an external backup drive which will be with me shortly, but I was wondering if anyone else has come across something like this and was aware of why my filesystem might have changed to RAW status?

is the hard disk dying?

are you looking at it from a file share or a local file manager view?

Check the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hd using a tool like speedfan.
