    SNES Cart SRAM Batteries

bah- put 3 hours into Super Metroid (twice) and it refused to save until the next day, I'd say there was a high chance the backup battery is dead, is it difficult to repair before I just jump in? all I need is a gamebit to open it and some soldering skills right - the battery is easy enough to get?

also another quickie, my super metroid cart has a choice of 'GERMAN' or 'FRENCH' subtitles, these come up regardless, you can't turn them off only toggle between one or the other, now it comes up with english text too so I'm not missing out on anything - I was just wondering if anybody elses PAL version is the same..

    thanks for your time

Mine is exactly the same with the subtitles. Strange - I am playing through it myself at the moment!!

cool - thanks for the confirmation seany, is anyone elses PAL copy like this?

maybe they all were (I'm a noob)

anyway, what a fantastic game, I bet your SRAM batteries not dead though, eh seany, its mad really, first dead one I've come across, and I must have personally seen over 15 copies of super mario world (2 I still have) which arent dead, yet its four years older, not that this whole ramble means anything or theres any correlation.

Mine appears OK. I have a bit of a problem with my SNES, and if I am too rough when re-inserting or removing carts then it wipes my saved game, but the battery is OK.

hmm, now you've said that about the snes wiping your save games if you're too rough, maybe that was it, super mario world is fine though, I think thats the only other battery backed game I have.. hmm

          gah - retro gaming eh?

Tell you what though - even when I wiped my first run through Metroid last week (an hour in), I love the game so much that I didn't care that I had to play it through again. the same applied when my Yoshi's Island saves went tits up.

Super Metroid is one of the greatest games of all time. Still looks, sounds and plays as well as it ever did. Only Castlevania SOTN tops it, in terms of the 2D platform/RPG genre.

              is castlevania SOTN = cv4?

if so I have it coming from ebay in a couple days - woot

I too played metroid again when it wiped it hehe

              anyway back on topic

I modded my snes for 60Hz earlier this week, now metroid doesnt work in 60 very well anyway, but I was going to order a 4.5mm gamebit to open the SNES, because I couldn't wait I ended up using 3 melted biros, but now I need a 3.5mm gamebit to get inside the super metroid cart and change the battery, but I only need it that once, tbh a 4.5mm one would be more useful

I guess the metroid cart with a shiny new battery in would save good though .. hehe
