    New Graphics Card Needed

    Hi guys,

currently have a 128 MB Geforce 6800 (normal one) which I fancy upgrading. Don't want to spend silly money and my board is not SLI compatible. Was maybe thinking a 6800 GT or X800 Pro. Any opinions on this?
    My system is:

    Athlon64 3000+
    1GB Corsair XMS Memory

    Thanks,

    Waz

While people are giving advice about graphics cards, it seems senseless to make another seperate thread. What's the cheapest AGP card I could buy that will get Battlefield 2 running acceptably? My GeForce Ti4200 doesn't meet the minimum Shader spec.

In my personal opinion upgrading a 6800 to a 6800gt or x800 is not going to give much of a performance boost.I currently use a 9800 pro and it runs my games acceptable enough games like doom3 halflife 2.I think the best agp card is the x850 i imagine though with new graphics cards coming out soon the price for the x850 will drop

As far as battle field 2 is concerned what pixel shader spec is needed? (i think the ati 9800 is pixel shader 2.0)

Is it worth it upgrading? Those cards are better but not by a huge amount. Have you tried overclocking the 6800 a bit?

mid - I'd say a second hand 9700pro or 9800pro for ?50 odd would be fine. If you're buying new then maybe something like a 6600 GT.

I found there was quite a big difference in quality between my high spec 6800 and my 6800 ultra. especially in games like far cry and doom 3, I got and extra 20FPS on doom 3

if you can afford 290 ish then overclockers do a x850xtpe pci express version or is your motherboard agp then overclockers have some good deals on agp cards

A ?50 9800 Pro would be rather nice, but they're more like ?70-?80 on eBay, it would appear. Still, I've got shedloads of unfinished games lying around; I'll manage ok without it.

Im continually tempted to sell my X800 Pro AGP card for a X850 PE AGP from Overclockers...

                  I will have it Marcus

I quite fancy either the 6800 GT or the X800 Pro...

Right, so Wazy has Marcus's X800, I have Wazy's 6800 non-Pro, and then try to find something to do with my Ti4200.

Except I probably can't afford to even give you a sensible amount of money for the 6800. Arse.
