can someone tell me if all vga boxes for the dreamcast are generally of the same quality or would you recommend a particular brand over others.

would anyone be able to tell me where to get a VGA box from and how much it would cost? I currently play Ika through my flatscreen, but i'd love to see it on an even higher-res display. I remember seeing Soul Calibur running on a monitor in gamestation about 3 years ago, looked sweet as.

You have an NTSC machine, right?

My boot disc won't output to VGA, so be warned.

                That's weird. Mine does.

What boot disc are you using? I'm using one of those cheat CDs that I bought from EB for a fiver.

I didn't think that anything other than DC-X was any good for booting Ikaruga anyway, but there you go.

I got a 3rd party VGA box online from consoleplus.co.uk which does a fine job, and also gives you stereo + SVideo outputs for when you're using the TV. That plus a (admittedly not great quality) PS2 RGB Scart for a total of about ?17 including postage, so its not going to cost you a fortune.

The old Utopia bootdiscs won't output vga but there's an easy sidestep around it: Simply unplug or switch off your vga adaptor whilst using the bootdisc. You'll need to do the disc swap blindfolded, effectively, but it isn't too difficult. Then simply turn on/plug in the vga adaptor once the game has finished booting up and if it's vga compatible it ought to work.

There's an updated Utopia that works with VGA.

I'm not sure which one I have, and I don't have any of my Dreamcasts here to tell. But I suppose I must have one of those old utopia jobbies.

Thanks for the tip chief. I'll try it, and if it works I'll feel really stupid.

Utopia Version 1.2 claims to have full support for VGA. So try downloading it from www.dccopyworld.com in the utilities section and burn it.

I ordered my VGA box from play-asia, and cost me 10 pound inc P&P, it's very cheap, ill tell you my impressions as soon as i get it.

Got me adaptor from Lik-sang for bout a tenner and its dammm fine. unoficial tho, but i wasnt prepared to pay five times as much for a sega one!!

Cant get Utopia 1.2 to do anything for VGA. Me mates Action Replay disc works fine for import VGAs tho.
