If I do not need the PC-input, SD-card slot and all the Picture-cum-Picture settings, would the Panasonic TX32LXD52 benefit my needs moreso than the Panasonic TX26LXD500 as the cost differences between the 26" models seems to be ridiculous for such small add-ons considering I just want a HD-Ready TV, that?s all.

As the Panny TX26LXD500 costs ?1100ish: the Panny TX32LXD52 without the small bits and bobs seems to be greater value of money at the same price as the 26? version - this means I can jump up 6-inches in terms of screen size and that is quite a difference.

Thanks for your previous help everyone: although a straight-forward ?yes? or ?no? would suffice, this is the final (important) question I would like a nice answer to please.

    Cheers.

If you don't need the extras, then definitely get the bigger screen - as long as you have a suitable viewing distance to match it.

If looks and card reader are not a concern, go with the 52 instead of the 500. They are identical in terms of image quality - same panel, same processing, same image.

I'm still in a quandry over which HDTV 32" LCD is the better gaming platform (older/current/NG consoles). The various models mentioned here like the Samsung LE32R41/51BD, JVC LT32DS6B and the Toshiba 32WLT58 all seem fine on paper then you read somebody say they're not good with a specific platform or a particular type of connection or even a specific game.

What I don't want to do is blow the best part of a grand on a LCD TV that is only good for HD gaming.

          Advice, recommendations, comments please.

standard content looks pretty ****e on a new fangled lcd or plasma, high def stuff looks fantastic.

therein lies the problem. at this very moment in time we're in a transition period between new tech and old tech, kit is coming out which can deal with high def but for tv we're still running ****e...

the answer, until everyone broadcasts high def is to keep your crt for standard tv and old consoles and buy a new hd panel for your new kit. not really a way around it yet unfortunately.

yep, it sure does. With my new dvd player, i have to plug it in through component as HDMI cables are $300 AUD!!! So anyway, i have had to resort to my ps2 through composite, and it looks really washed out and dull. Not unplayable, but when you play through component/vga/HDMI, there really is such a difference, it is a little hard to go back.

If your TV's bust don't arrange send it back to Samsung, mine only went back as it wouldn't update the firmware, just over 2 weeks later, and there still waiting for some parts.

                ****ing Great.

Yes, there seems to have been some confusion about this but the overall conclusion is that the 52 and 500 have the same screen, which is better than the 50.

If for you it's the difference between the 26" and 32", go for the 32.

Oh, it could be a lot worse.

They could have it for three weeks, fail to update it, screwing things up even more in the process. Your retailer could then tell you that you're entitled to a refund once getting a report on the repair sent out to them, as it had been away for an unreasonable length of time. Two weeks later, still being stuck with an unwatchable television they finally get a report and tell you that it has to be over 30 days for a replacement and that they would not offer a refund if it's outside the first 28 days of your purchase.

So that's over five weeks now that I've been unable to watch my television, and I wasn't even offered a temporary set while my one was being repaired. (was told they don't do that)

Legally, as far as I can see now, I'm entitled to a full refund, but they weren't having any of it. Will have to contact trading standards. *sigh* and I thought EmpireDirect had actually changed, after the guy saying I'd be offered a refund. Looks like they're still the same company with awful customer service that they were about five years ago when my Sharp CRT died. (I had been told that the company had changed a lot since then)

Firstly; I called up the service centre to arrange for an engineer to come out, and no-one turned up. They then claimed that I had not arranged for a repair.

I have given them a reasonable amount of time to fix it, and while 30 days may be their company policy, this is not what the law states. The law states that I have to give them what I consider to be a reasonable time. When it is not out for repair does not mean that it is working. It has been five+ weeks now. Once the person told me I was entitled to a refund, I was told to cancel any engineer coming out, which is why nothing has been done in the last two weeks about it.

The television was not fit for the purpose intended.

The set was sold to me as being faulty - this tearing fault was there from day 1. I did not report it until two months later, as I did not have any equipment capable of reproducing it. As it is software related, it is not something that could have developed over time. Not noticing a fault does not mean that there was no fault.

Now the only problem is getting something done about it. I have M.E. so even the few calls I've had to make today have taken a lot out of me. If it were to get to the point where I have to take them to a small claims court, I would not necessarily be able to make it.

Which repair company is it with?

                      Mine's at Sontec (Electronics) Limited.

I haven't spoken to Empire at all, gone through Samsung all the way.

DSC Solutions. As the retailer, it's my understanding that EmpireDirect should have had to deal with it all, but they just passed me onto Samsung.

I just saw the original thread on AVForums that said how Samsung have a fix and to contact this number. Think it was an email to AVForums or something like that can't remember exactly

So basically its best to avoid the Samsung?

Shame because it seems the best price/size.

I really like my Samsung, and andrewfee's recommendation is a large part of why I bought it. However, I'm planning on upgrading my firmware myself (I have the tearing problem). I'm not sending it anywhere. ^^

this is why you should buy B&O kit, you'll get a replacement tv for any time yours is away for repair (usually 10 days max).

                                </partly joking>
