I do wish Toshiba made HD CRTS, although I can understand why they didnt.

    A 720p/1080i/p capable 36" Picture Frame 4 or Strada set would've been the DD's I reckon.

My only real complaints about the BRAVIAs are the poor colour reproduction, sharpness and lack of inputs, most of which doesn't bother people, especially if it's their first LCD.

help needed quickly, spare of the moment decision to buy myself a lcd for xmas..

only got 600-650 to spend, not looking for anything amazing just something to play xbox360 on in hd and watch some tele, and maybe plug pc into for some big screen world of warcraft action.

        narrowed it down to either

Did you ever get a chance to look at the Ws, Andrew? Or were you just referring to the 1366x768 TVs?

Of course the colour will be the same across the board, but the W and X series both have 2 HDMI which I'd say is fairly reasonable.

Got it yesterday arrived in 2 days, Soundwave on the board also has had one for a while........I am literally amazed by the prog scan dvd, the review claims its the best one available at the time and I can only say its pretty great. Only bummer i see is that it turns 60hz rgb scart to composite, so its limited to component, svhs & somposite really.

Itt does murder kill any lcd ive seen for sd, but on the other hand its not exactly future proof.

shame they dont have any 28inch versions left or i might have gone for one, seen as i've just took the paint off mine so looks crap now(left one of those stupid glade plug in things upside down on it overnight )

might pick up a cheap HDTV in the sales now

Some may be interested, I decided to play with the PS3's DVD playback, and for the most part I was quite impressed, very nice indeed. This is 480p over VGA.

I decided to dig out a region 0 NTSC disc to see how they compare with the same footage, and I probably prefer the results from the PS3.

On that subject, this also highlighted a bug with the 360 playback - the Region 0 discs played back in 576p on my PAL machine, dispite being NTSC discs - does the 360 just use system default (PAL) for region 0 discs?
Region 2 NTSC discs (JPN releases) work fine, in correct 480p.

For the record, the region 0 disc used was disc 1 from the Slayers Next box set. Any of you who have this set would know these are an absymal mess in terms of image quality , straight VHS-to-DVD transfers I reckon, and the VHS's were low PQ anyway. A real challenge for any player to clean up.

PS3 does actually have 'Frame Noise Reduction' and 'Block Noise Reduction' which can be set by the user however much they want it.

Also, while for the most part the PS3 was very good, fireing up my GitS Special Edition 6.1 US release, there were major deinterlacing and IQ issues on the Manga Entertainment screen, and the film itself had a few issues with IO, though none of the deinterlacing issues.
Very odd it happens on that film specifically.

Generally though, the PS3 does a good job. It even properly did that wierd-ass transparency layer on the ending to Slayers Try, which many 'better' players struggle with.

Can anyone with a Toshiba WLT66/68 set post their picture settings? Got the 32" WLT66 model myself for Christmas and haven't been able to get mine looking as good as I would like them. I've had a look on AV forums and the page devoted to them doesn't help me.

My problem is, I can't get blacks black enough, all the settings posted say to turn off black stretch, but doing so just makes things worse

I posted my settings from my 42WLT66 somewhere earlier on this thread.

                            Keep black stretch off btw.

Why though? It just turns everything pale.

Also, I notice you have the 360 set at 720p - how is that better for gaming than 1080i?

Black stretch really destroys detail as things get dark, and you should have plenty of contrast if you have it all set up well.

I have my 360 set to 1080i now for HD DVD playback, but before I got it I used 720p as it's better for gaming. (being the 360's natural resolution)
