Gamecube GBA Player Region related Question

So if I have a US BOOT DISC and use it on a US CUBE with a JAPANESE INDIGO GBA player is all well in terms of playing lovely GBA goodness on my telly?

I really want an Indigo GBA player however they are unavailable in North America to Nintendo's great wisdom they only sell the jet black version and well that's it.

So is it just the boot disc that is the problem for region use?

Play Asia state that their GBA Players will work with both US or Japanese Cubes out of the box however I was always under the impression that the boot disc was the key to getting the thing to work irrespective of where the physical player was bought, US, Europe, Japan...
