who is using the qoob chip?

Is anyone using the qoob chip then?

what do you think of it, I see it allows you to force progressive on everything, does that include Pal titles if I start buying them?

For those that don't know what I am on about......

Haven't used one, but I heard that the prog scan compatibility is a bit hit-and-miss with PAL titles.

Just found a basic compatibility list here:

I have a Qoob mod, the cheaper Qoob SX (which still supports Prog. Scan).

Personally, I feel it's worth going for, as not only do you end up with a region-free machine, but you don't have to rebuy all your games in NTSC format just for 480i mode.

Some games work, some don't... more seem to work than those that don't though, and all of the Resident Evil games work, including Resi4. Plus it leaves you free to cash in on those bargin bin PAL games.

I look at getting your hardware modified in such a way as a long-term investment.

EDIT - Here's an odd one, that list shows that PAL Tales of Symphonia works in 480p mode.... yet I hear the US game does not.... strange.

        Yod@, Shakey_Jake,

thanks for the replies, I have ordered one anyway and the case, just so I know in the future I can play translated stuff that doesn't get an English release, I am playing SD3 (Mana2) at the mo on the snes in english and loving it.

I am not too worried about the progressive scan on Pal titles because I have a scaler anyway which helps, I was more interested if you could force the menus and boot up screens to progressive so I can leave it in the HD inout on the scaler.

Hopefully it will be hear in a couple of days, will let you know what I think.

In prog scan? PAL versions is this? I have a friend who got the mod, said (iirc...) NTSC REmake dies on the opening movie and RE0 works but is horribly skewed off screen.

Personally though all my games are NTSC, Killer7's the only thing I can think of that'd take advantage of it, I'm not sure it's worth it. Wish there was a ps2 mod that did this.

right i've been thinking of getting a qoob pro chip for my pal cube, is it just like a ps2 modchip where installed would play import originals on it ?

as it would be great to be able to play most of my gamecube collection on the pal cube incase my import one broke

whats the main differences between the pro and sx chips ?

I have a switched JPN/NTSC cube, but it's tempting to get this to add 480p support accross the board (I'm thinking of getting a LCD TV at the end of the year). Can I leave my switch on? Would it interfere with anything?

Yeah, with a Qoob (or any other GC Modchip for that matter), you'll be able p put in any disc, be it import or backup, and it'll boot.

As for the difference between the SX and Pro... the SX has all the main features and stuff you actuakky need. The Pro has a larger flash size for features like AR codes, custom backgrounds etc.
I personally have an SX as mine was premodded and just came with it, and it has all the important stuff like Force480p etc.

I assume so, it's completely separate to the mod after all.

You'll still have trouble with a handful of JP titles on a PAL cube (no saving on Mr Driller, for example), but other than that then it should work fine.

i dont have any japan games, because of the language barrier so it'll work great then with my usa games.

the switch mod would affect it surely as you switch it to japan region or usa region and the mod chip would be inserting the relevant bootcode which it would already have ?

                          unless i understand it wrong

From what I gather the chip overrides the switch because on my viper'ed ntsc US cube it makes no difference it still boots US, jap and pal software irrespective of the switch position. The only time the switch makes any difference is if the chip is disabled. Whether it affects the HD output though I could'nt say.

That's why I want to keep my switch in. I love Mr Driller!
