NTL swap

I've just called NTL to swap my crappy Pace box for a new Samsung one. Have I made a mistake?

Apparently they're faster than the Pace one (couldnt be any slower!) and in silver which will be nice. Also I have a CAble modem attached to my Pace, will installing the Sammy fook anything up?

is it free to do this ? I have a Pace box (new one about 15 months ago) and would love to be able to replace it, slow as fook, takes ages to start up, the list goes on. How comes you still have an external modem ?

I 'apprently' needed a cable modem because our Pace box didnt go over 1meg BB. I've heard from various sources that this is bull**** because they all have at least 2meg BB capabilities with the best going up to 8meg or something.

Anyway, Im beginning to think its a scan because they setup another Direct Debit up after they installed the cable modem a few months back. So we've been getting charged ?24.99 twice a month. We've phoned up and complained twice and they've assured us that we'll receive a cheque in the post within 10 days. Time will tell I guess. . . .


ANYWAY, on a seperate note, our NTL remote has well and truly packed in so I called them up and said I wanted another remote and could we also swap the Pace one for a Samsung one as I have heard they're better. The girl on the phone told me that we would get a Samsung remote with it so it would be like killing 2 birds with one stone so said yes.

They're meant to be coming 2moro morning, if it all goes well I'll post my feedback here. If I dont that prolly means the BB connection is fooked!!!

I had minor similar troubles.

I have the older Pace box with an internal modem, being on 300k previously. When I wanted the 1mb (which they were running at the same price, without warning mind you), they said they had to change the box because it couldnt do 1mb.

After 2 weeks of them not turning up, and them turning OFF my internet on the last suppposed day of arrival, i phone them back up..........the new guy on the phone said that was bull****, and turned my 1mb on, on the old box right away.

If I want to go any higher I will have to change....apparently. Also tho, this box for TV is rubbish, hardly any interactive works, or very slow at best, no teletext either

Well, I've got the 2Mb package, the guy installing it told me I should have had a Samsung box and not the Pace one he was giving me, and sure enough whenever I download large files the TV side of things goes screwy. However, the morons on the phone don't seem to give a ****.

The came today and were installing a newer Pace box!!!

I came down and was like WTF? The dude was like 'No one told me about a Samsung box' So I said install this one and I'll see how we go on from here (anything would be an improvement from the older box anyway!!!)

After I left em to it, I came back and he'd gone and my mum said that it was taking too long to install so his manager was coing personaly to install a Samsung 1!!!!

And so he did, which I can confirm IS faster at flicking through channels THANK GOD!!!. Has a nastier more uncomfortable remote BUT can now finaly be used to change and mute the volumes on my toshiba YAY!!! There are loads of Codes at the back of the remote to tune your NTL remote with as well.

One thing was it hadnt updated ALL the channels but the guy said it'd take an hour and he would phone up to make sure it had. If it hadnt then it as just a matter of a phone call apparently so I've left it at that!

So to sum up, shiny new Silver Samsung box with even nastier remote but quicker channel hopping and control of TV sound.

pleased for you Bash, I only have 1mb line so PACE box works OK - apart from slow channel swapping etc, keep an eye of what they charge, they are a nightmare for overcharging, when I upgraded from 300k to 1mb they tried to charge me for both connections for three months.
