    PS2 messiah problem?

I have a pal ps2 with a first gen messiah chip. I have recently bought 2 component cables- one was cheap and the other expensive. Both only display a rolling purple image!

I looked-up some info on Google and it seems that the Messiah chip is causing the problem.

Is there anything I can do? I don't really want the messiah anyway

Would this happen through RGB? How primitive is the first gen Messiah,if at all?

    Thinking of a swapsie see?

RGB works fine- I'm using it at the moment. The reason I want component is because I will upgrading to an LCD tv sometime in the winter and I hear these types of screens don't like scart much.

Maybe there is a way to solve the problem? I wish I had never had the chip installed because I never have use for it!

My messiah'd ps2 doesnt even show anything at all through component..... I don't think there is anything you can do about it though. You could sell the ps2 and buy a new unchipped one. A chipped ps2 should fetch more than a new one anyways.

Seems like your best bet tbh.

I'm sure you could find someone to take that chip out and swap in a newer one like the DMS4, which pretty much works transparently with everything. Try asking some of the places that offer chipping services.

I don't want a chip- I have never had any use for it!

How much is a 30003 model worth thats never been used much with Messiah1?

Are slim line ps2's dodgy and inferior to the bigger model?

i probably know what has happend when you got the ps2 whoever installed the messiah chip has probably done the rgb mod for dvd playback and i think that has disabled component output

you can reverse it as its only a link wire between two points you could just unsolder the wire and it should fix it

I have never opened a ps2. Do you think I could take the messiah out?

I have no idea about soldering etc... My brother does though!

i'd leave the messiah in you could just open it and cut the link wire then tape up the each bit of wire so it doesn't sort anything

also the ps2 could have the force pal mod on it aswell that could also why it does output component

If you don't really care about having the mod, sell your modded machine - it should fetch quite a good price - then use that to buy a new one.

I might sell it- I hear the slim line ps2 is very dodgy ( i.e. built with cheap components and prone to failing ) So I will probably go for an old machine!

                          Kingston,

It sounds like your PS2 is outputting RGB video over the three RCA cords. You need it to output Y/Pb/Pr. It might be a dumb question, but have you set the PS2 to output this mode?

Plug in a cable that does give you a stable display, and go into the system options. Change "Component Video Out" (I think that's what it's called) to the option that has Y/Pb/Pr in it. I think it's labelled as "Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr". Then power off and try with Component again.

If it still doesn't work, then yep, you'll need to get a newer mod chip. On my latest mod (this is back when I had a PS2) the "Sony Computer Entertainment America presents..." screen would show a purple rolling screen the same way as you describe, although the games would play fine. Some mods do bungle the output quite a bit.

Go hunt for a V9 or V10, they seem to be the best ones.

v7 with the fan swapped out for a quiet one is the way to go.
