Virtual Games (a chain of shops in Berkshire) do them for ?20. I picked up a complete minter a month or so ago.

      I know they have more.

Was it a big nasty explosion, or has it just gone into the traditional reset problem? If its the latter, you could probably fix it.

I think the motor might be boogered. Sometimes the DC doesn't seem to read the disk at all ........ going to the default file/settings screen. Other times it starts fine and ,during the game, goes to this screen aswell (which has ruined some classic Fire Pro matches )

That sounds like what mine was doing for a while. Take the machine's top off (the four screws underneath, not forgetting that you'll need to remove the modem to get at the last one). You'll notice that the hinge has a sticky out cog bit that not only gives it that smooth open action, but presses a switch in to let the machine know the lid is closed. Stick something (I used a sticky pad) on it to press the switch harder, and bob's your uncle.

Its a piece of cake, to be honest; no worries to it at all. You're only sticking a little bit of rubber onto some plastic thats about 5mm wide; no soldering or anything complicated here.

If you do feel slightly brave its possible to lift up that power daughterboard on the left hand side once you've got it open, and clean the contacts it makes with the main board. Thats pretty simple too, and dodgy power contact has been the source of many a DC owner's pain.

Thank you mid I tried sticking a pad on the bit you mentioned and my problems are over.

You have won my good bloke award 8)

                          Glad to be of service...

It seems to be an increasingly common problem, actually - I think the switch gets gradually loose over time, or something. Its saved a couple of machines now from the tip.
