Importing a console: charges

Importers:

When you import a console..... do you always get hit by tax? As someone mentioned in the xbox 360 pricing thread... I think it would cost as much to buy an imported machine (plus shipping plus tax) as it would to buy a domestic one. Just trying to keep my bases covered for when its time to order from VG+.

I have imported a couple of consoles but the people i buy off are kind enough to reduce the value on the paperwork or to change the description.So i have not been hit so far.A few games i ordered i was hit though (lik-sang would not reduce the value or change the description)

Not exactly bought from an e-store, but I bought my JP Saturn from a Japanese eBay seller and wasn't charged any tax on it. I got it ages ago before I was keyed into tax charges etc, so I never thought to ask him to mark it down or checked to see if he had...

I have only started ordering from vg+ i ordered a game makai kingdom they impressed me cos they marked down the package with out me asking them.

I recieved a letter in the post from a company a DEBT collector i owed 41 euros to DHL.Apparently a parcel had been delivered to me but the driver did not notice it was a COD for the import chargers that must have been over 2 months ago.What annoyed me is they did not send a letter or phone me instead they got a debt collector (who probably added there own charges on to the bill)

Only thing that worries me with importing consoles, is that if you get PA/VG+ to mark down the value and it goes missing/get's damaged, that DHL will only pay out the marked down value. Dunno if PA/VG+ will reimburse you in full.
Prehaps I'm just being negative.

i guess VG+ had marked a PSP down for me and DHL lost it

VG+ send a brand new machine when DHL admitted it was missing
