Wondering about a Japanese Nintendo DS

Hi, I'm up for buying a Nintendo DS, and I was looking at the prices of the UK ones, just under ?100, but I wanted to ask about getting a Japanese console.

Apart from the choice of colours, at Play-Asia, they're also ?84, I'm aware of the voltage difference, I just wanted to ask if there were any disadvantages of getting a Japanese console?

I've seen this on the site: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-18-70-29n.html - A UK voltage plug for recharging the Japanese DS, at ?2.78, the whole thing is still about ?12 cheaper than the UK model.

The Jap. console, plus the above adaptor, am I good to go with these two items? Also are there any menus or anything that might pose a language problem (I know no Japanese).

    Thanks for any help.

You'll have to pay shipping on top of that price, which that takes you back to around ?100, so unless you want one of the fancy colours, I'd say it's not worth importing one.

It'll be set to Japanese as default (duh) but you can change the system to full English. Can't remember how I did it with mine, I just went into a few menus before I found the language one.

Just in case : If you already own a UK spec GBA SP then there is no need to get a separate power adaptor as they are the same.

Oh really? I have a UK GBA:SP, so the power adaptor will work fine with the Japanese DS?

                That's great, the currency/voltage and everything isn't a problem?

The SP charger is identical to the DS charger; I've charged my SP on my wife's DS charger and vice versa.

You might like to consider this.

Yes-Asia are good. They have free delivery and pay VAT and duty so there are no hidden costs (the stuff is posted in the UK). Ought to arrive in about a week. THose are the colours for quick shipping (1-2 days)

They have other colours. Also a DS and game is ?110. You can get a UK charger from GAME (a GBA one is OK).

Thanks for the links, I know yes-asia

Sorry to hammer this point (and at the chance of sounding like a complete numb-skull) - Can I just confirm that I can use the power charger cable I got with my UK GBA:SP on a Japanese DS?

Double confirmed. I do that with mine as well.

The manual will obviously be in Japanese, but that's no big thing. Might want to check the return policy on the place you buy it from, as it's harder to return than a UK console if there are any dead pixels or other problems.

                            Enjoy your DS gaming!

Thanks for all your help guys. My cute lil' pink DS came this morning, and I am more than happy.

The stylus is a brilliant idea by Nintendo, it feels so natural using it in games!

                              Well, thanks again
