Please help. PS2 black and white screen.

Ive got a ploblem with my asian ps2, when I try playing a game it comes up in black and white.

My T.V runs dreamcast games in 60hz
My T.V runs xbox games in 60hz
My T.V runs gamecube games in 60hz
My T.V runs saturn games in 60hz

But every bloody time I try to use a playstation console (pal or otherwise) in 60hz, it comes up black and white.

    Whats going on!!!

Are you using an RGB cable? - if not you should do so, that will solve you problem. You havent been specific but I assume your other machines are running PAL60 while your Asian PS2 is running NTSC and you are not using an RGB cable.

If it's not that - have a check in the system menu to see if the machine is set to RGB output.

Alternatively - there are a lot of PS2 RGB cables on the market that have all sorts of weird issues, I've come across this problem using an RGB cable bought from Game - PAL signal is fine, you get an RGB image, but as soon as it switches to NTSC it's black and white (no idea why this happens as with RGB it shouldnt make a difference)

    Good PS2 version

Edited previous post - it could possibly be the cable you are using.

I was under the impression that the PS2 (PAL or otherwise) doesn't output PAL60, but instead uses NTSC for its 60Hz mode. Certainly my PAL PS2 uses NTSC for all the 60Hz games that I can remember. So Saurian's original advice of getting an RGB lead should solve your problem. (You could use s-video instead if you wanted.)

I have an Asian PS2 and used the cable that came with it and it was in colour.

If you get an RGB lead (I use my old PS1 RGB lead) you need to adjust the settings so that they say RGB.

I found a quick fix. I changed the settings to rgb and used a psone ntsc/pal converter (the normal lead still didnt work)

The picture is poor, but at least its in colour!

Thanks to saurian, cobertizo and bassman for your help.

Seriously get yourself one of these cables - using the composite cables that come with the machines as standard is an absolute waste of decent gaming hardware.

It sounds like your TV is not NTSC compatible though it is Pal 60 compatible.

Yep i agree with saurian.I had problems where i could not get any game to run in 60hz (and in colour) i bought a blaze scart cable and it works fine (though i did have a 3 way scart and i could not get a 60hz colour signal through that) now i found a decent 3 way scart and everything runs fine.

Yep. The TV can support 60Hz picture but not NTSC colour frequency, hence you get a b&w image. Get a proper RGB cable (such as Blaze); problem solved.
