Chipped Xboxs-Are they reliable/Stable?

Hi,
been dicking around for quite a while now trying to make up my mind and get a modded Xbox.I've been noticing recently that quite a few of these"altered consoles"have been appearing on the trading folder,with quite a few sellers stating that the consoles are only a few weeks old ect and this got me wondering if this was due in some part to the machine becoming unstable or faulty in some way due to the mod,(absolutely no offense intended or meant towards any seller what so ever).My old one(not chipped) used to sometimes be unable to read a disc and I was thinking that tampering with the console may produce more of these niggly probs.
Basically I would love to hear your experinces of owning a chipped Box and any probs you've encountered technically with these as well as the postive experiences,any info greatly appreciated.,

I owned one and had no trouble at all with it, i just sold it as i no longer required the chip.

I have never had any problems with chiped machines, I think the main reason people get rid of them is they get bored with them, once you have a hard drive full of games you end up not playing any of them, same as having a folder full of ps2 silvers.

They are great if you are into the emulator scene and if you want to use it as a media jukebox for films and music etc.

but for filling the hard drive with games the novelty of the xbox soon wears off.

I havent had any trouble with mine either. Some games can be a bit funny though. For example my PAL copy of Steel Batallion doesnt work properly when the chip is turned on, but all you have to do is turn it off and it works fine.

My machine is a US NTSC Xbox Chipped with the Xecuter 2 Lite, the chip does everything I need it to. I also have a 40 GB Hard Drive. Theres some good software to, the dongle free DVD Player is good and the emulators are great fun. I ahve had no problems with not reading discs or anything like that. Only had one minor problem, when playing PAL Xbox Demo discs the camera normally pans down, now it stops at the top, makes a clunky movement then is instantly down showing the menu. None of my games are affected though. If you want to know some guy that will chip your machine give me a PM or an email.

I don't think XBox mod chips cause any real problems at all.

They do allow you to run apps that play with the hard drive contents, so I guess you could end up deleting something important

I have wondered if running certain cd-r/cd-rw/dvd-r disks might shorten the lifespan of the drive, but I haven't seen anyone complain about this happening to them. It wouldn't be the mod chip itself at fault either way.

The Tekki problem was down to implementing a button combo to soft reset the machine. It was fixed in later versions of the bios.

I bought a pal XBox specifically to get it chipped for Tekki. No problems at all, and lots of fun with homebrew

This can be fixed easily with the videomode switchdisc (which doesn't actully have to be a disc, just an option in EvoX). Its just a case of changing setting to PAL

Never had a problem with a chipped machine - most of the common problems are software related which can easily be fixed/patched/updated.

Same here. Absolutely no problems at all. Just make sure you get it modded by someone who knows what they are doing.
