i'm looking for a new tv. these look nice, but it doens't seem that you can turn off the 100hz stuff... just wondering if anyone has any experience with them whilst gaming... does the 100hz stuff screw everything up?

I've got a 36ZP38, and you can't switch between 100hz/50hz/60hz on that - it's 100hz all the time unless you feed it a prog scan signal (hence 50hz/60hz).
You can disable most of the digital image processing on it, which is ordinarily the cause of most picture borkisms. Feed it prog scan through component from your PS2 or Xbox and you shouldn't have any complaints.

If there's a 100hz disable function in the service menu of my 36ZP38, I've yet to find it, and I've got a few guides... admittedly, they don't say what every shortcode stands for.
TBH, I've never had an issue with the 100hz (it's the digital picture processing that can be painful). Most tvs are pretty good these days and 100hz horror stories are sort of a thing of the past.Last edited by anephric; 26-08-2005, 13:41.

you CAN switch the 100hz off. just select progressive on the scan mode option and the tv will go into 50hz mode. it has its own on board deinterlacer (presumably just a very basic 'bob' mode deinterlacer) and so it goes into 50hz even though it's not receiving a proper external progressive signal. i much prefer this to the 100hz because of all the artifacts it throws up. although if you're suceptible to 50hz flicker then you may prefer 100hz.

If you press the Picture Mode button on your remote and cycle through to Picture Mode 3 (it'll go very dark) that's supposed to disable SVM (Scan Velocity Modulation) which is basically a form of edge enhancement. Make your brightness and contrast adjustments from there.
