    matrix infinity version1.54 problem!!!

    hi folks,

i have recently donloaded and burned on cd the latest version of the matrix infinity software(1.54)on my slimline silver ps2(that had v1.38 on it before the flash).

i'm rather concerned though as it booted fine, i flashed my chip and the menu said that it was complete.

now all i'm getting when i turn on my ps2 is a black screen with "matrix" written in big bold writing on it?? no booting of games etc?? if i reset from that screen the ps2 boots up in unchipped mode!?

i'm seriously worried as i cant play winning eleven 9 or any of my other import games, and i've only had the machine 2 weeks

and i cant even reboot the softweare disc now!?? anyone had this problem??

any hints appreciated, as there is no trouble shooter online anyware?

If you hold down circle and triangle when you switch on the machine, does it bring up the modchip's menu?

no none of the pad functions make a difference!! i just opened the ps2 up and realised that the chip is"modbo v1.1" wtf?? on boot up it clearly states matrix infinity 1.38???

does anyone know anything about the modbo and recovering from a bad flash?

i really wouldnt like to attempt to replace the chip as the wires are tiny and its so skillfully done to be fair.

This wont help you much mate, but I believe the reason the flash failed is because the modbo is a clone of the matrix infinity homebrew chip and the latest matrix bios's are not compatible with them due to matrix locking them out. However you may be able to get hold of a cracked matrix firmware and flash that to it but if you cant access the flash menu it could well be impossible to repair without getting a new chip.

To force a flash try this:

Put Upgrade CD into PS2 and put PS2 into standby.
Press "reset button" and keep pressed until blue light turn ON (on V1-V11).
(For the V12 press reset button from standby for 2-3 seconds as there is
        no blue light).
Leave "reset button" and Upgrade CD will boot.
Follow on-screen instructions to complete the Upgrade procedures

Seconded. The newer versions of the Infinity firmware were designed not to work on clone modchips.
I think your only recourse will be to either have the machine rechipped, or complain to the person who sold you the modchip.

Hmmmz, I got a secondhand PS2 with Matrix Infinity v1.2 modchip. I tried to flash it, but it says that the disc cannot be read (actually I have this on my modded PSTwo as well, but I have flashed that in the past, so I guess the burning process wasn't correct or he has a hard time swallowing the cd-rw).

If I press Circle and Triangle I don't get in the Matrix menu, so I'm wondering if this is a modbo as well...

i've read many times that the ps2 is kind of allergic to re-writeable cdrs / has a lot more trouble reading cd-rw discs. proabably because the notoriously bad laser of the ps2 needs to have a more powerful/focused beam to read them. so maybe just use a cheap cd-r and try again and see if it works then.

Yeah, I kinda figured that as well. But it's such a waste to use a cd-r for it imo, but I guess I'll live
Gonna give it a try after all then, thanks!

Though I actually also need to find out if it hasn't got a clone Matrix...

Just tried it with a cd-r and indeed it worked.
Got two 1.88 Matrix Infinity PS2's now

It's always worth using a CD-R for stuff like than anyway. They cost next to nothing nowadays and you don't want to risk something like a firmware flash with a disc format that's a bit flaky. If you know someone else with the same chip you can just hand it off to them so that they can upgrade theirs, and then it doesn't feel as wasteful
