    CD/DVD Repair Services

My daughter managed to knock my PS2 over the other day whilst a game was being played, and as a result the disc was scratched and now has a fine circle scratch running all the way around it and won't load.

Has anyone tried any of the numerous disc repaire services that seem to be sprining up all over the place? I saw an advert for one in Toys r Us a few weeks back, so I'm assuming these repairs are pretty successful. I'm not talking about these dodgy 'Disc Dr' things that you get for under ?20, but the 'professional' standard repair services where you send a disc off and they repair it using a big expensive machine.

Does the repair bring the disc back to its original state, ie nice and shiny?

we had one of these machines at work and it worked a treat, all my ebay PS1 games went through it before they went on ebay

Had a disk dr. and swore by it. Fixed all the dodgy disks which I used to receive off ebay, from dodgy sellers. Little bit delicate though, so be gentle with it

The professional machine at my local indie DVD rental shop did a frankly astounding job on my previously unbootable disc of ZoE. Amazing stuff.

mid - how did the actual disc look? Did it look the same as a standard 'mint' disc or did it show signs that it had been repaired?

Any links to a decent repair place- and one that does bulk deals?

If not- is the Dr thing any good? Can you get a motorised version?

Most of my 2nd hand games come with scratches- especially of flea-bay!

My discs done with the machine all look nice and minty; as well as that one, I've got a bunch of ex-rental discs that he's chucked through the machine before I had them. I vaguely remember him doing a mail service for disc-cleaning, but I can't find his web address now.

Unless you're like Kingston and need a lot of discs doing at once, your best bet is probably to ask in your nearest DVD rental place, as many of them have the machines for cleaning up after the mess customers make of them.

We have one of these machines in the warehouse where I work, I was a bit skeptical that they can clean up a disc - it does very much depend on the location and depth of the scratches. If they're quite deep and circular, the machine can't save them, but surface scratches really do come out and leave the disc shiney and new looking, it's quite impressive.

I've emailed a company called Fixmydisc but they've not replied, leading me to assume they've gone bust.

Nowhere near me does a disc repaire service so I need to find somewhere I can mail the disc off to.

Not sure if this is allowed on the forums, but:

Seems pretty good. I'm mailing my disc off today.

I've just requested a free mailer from these guys:

                      www.cdhospital.com

They look pretty decent price wise & offer good reductions for larger quantities.
