    Single lens or tric-colour projector?

    Hi there!

I'm going for the ultimate gaming setup so I'm looking for a decent projector for both games and DVD. Having used a single lens projector in the past and suffering from distortion around the edges in fast moving games would a tri-colour projector be better then a single lens?

    Cheers!

Not really, it would be a bit better but they still use the same type of technology so your going to get LCD persistence.

I thought single lens ---> triple choice was purely a price issue

The triple lensed ones are CRT bulbs, not LCD or DLP, and so have completely different properties to them.

Including starting at around the ?10-15 grand mark, and it costing almost as much as a cheap LCD projector to replace each time they blow. Sorry...

          Good move !!

regarding projector choice, if you have to go digital I would personally go for a DLP rather than an LCD because you tend to find that the black levels are better for the price. But you may suffer from the rainbow effect because DLP has a spinning wheel of the three primary colours so you actually see the red, green and blue one after the other. If you see flicker from a tv at 50hz you could be in trouble.

How much room have you got ???
          Is it a dedicated games/film room ???

I would consider a CRT if you have the space, you will get stunning detail, colours and black level from around ?600 for a used crt, in fact go to a couple of grand and and I bet there isnt a digital unit that can beat it.

read up on avforums about the digital pJs and the crt's.

this is a shot of a sony 1271 crt that I have just sold for ?700, it pisses on any digital I have seen so they are worth considering.

cant get the detail with my camera but it gives you an idea.
this is on a 16:9 72" wide (around 85" diagnal ?) on a screen with no gain.
taken with a fuji in 1.3 mega pixel mode.

good luck, well worth it , specially when you see the xbox in 720p and 1080i

blimmin' 'eck thats cheap for a CRT projector! Where do you find them at these cheap prices? I've been looking at LCD or DLP for a couple of grand, assuming that CRT was still way out of my budget.

              try Roland at B4projection

he always has some good deals going about.

I have tried loads of digital projectors but they just dont cut it, I cant wait till they do get as good as crt but I think that we have a way to go as yet.
