will an Asian version game work on a Jap Megadrive?

Got golden axe 3, and it turns out to be an asian version. Will this work on a japanese MD?

Also, I have'nt got an import MD yet, so which is the best buy? (asian or Jap)

Steam off the Asian version sticker from the cover, throw away the "English" manual and then by the magic of the Sega Fairy you have a Japanese version of Golden Axe III.
